My M1A Socom had a failure and blew apart

My first post here

Unfortunately not the best news, but just wanted to report this incident.

Brand new rifle, 17th round, trigger pulled and boom. Blew out the bottom, part of casing stuck to firing pin area. No injuries thank goodness. Whole incident captured on video - posted to YouTube.

Happy no one was hurt, disappointed the rifle is done.

Ammo: ZSR 7.62x51 (M80) 147 grain

Never thought this would happen in a million years! Be safe on the range.

That could have been a slam fire however I doubt it as #17 would have gone off without pulling the trigger after loading from firing #16

My take on this is an over pressure round, #17 which blew straight down or it was a slam fire that ignited the primer before the bolt was in full battery.

That being said there is really not enough information on the total condition of the gun, ie bulging of the barrel?

A lot of unknowns.

My guess is Springfield will replace the gun after inspection.

Someone took this exact incident and posted it in the M14/M1A FB page and there is a whole bunch of idiots screaming about how SA is responsible and needs to warranty this lol.

Nevermind the extremely questionable ammo that has a documented history of being garbage and overloaded, as well as it being something I doubt any decent shooter would classify as quality "Factory Loaded" ammunition.

The hive mind mentality never ceases to amaze.

Just getting tired of "this pistol is junk jams on steel case crap" dudes. Garbage in garbage out. Lifes too short to shoot crap.
Again, never said anything was junk or jams or complaining about steel case. I was merely posting the incident that I had.

Worst case scenario you could pull the bullets and reload the cases with a known quality powder. I wouldn't throw what you have away.
Except I have yet to invest in re-loading...it was a plan to do it at some point...just not yet. The price of components right now makes it a wash to reload or buy new for many of my preferred calibers...so I was putting it off.

I guess that case goes into long-storage until I do...

Was not aware it was posted on there. That must have been a sheet show.
