New M1A tanker had bad gas cylinder, was undersized.

No.

Now let's circle back to the topic, I don't see where Wilb67 was charged any money by Smith Enterprise
Dude, I am not trying to argue with you. It is a free country and he and you can do whatever you want. I really do not care.
I am simply pointing out that I would think that having an out of spec piston is more likely than a block. I also agree with 10mmLife as to why someone would not send it in for warranty.
I mean if you buy something or have something worked on by someone and you need it looked at, most people go with the warranty. I am glad he was not charged, but it makes no sense. But again whatever, it is a free country.

I would think people would cheer and celebrate Smith Enterprise for stepping up and handling the issue at no cost to the owner of the rifle... I am disappointed with those that see something other than an industry leader stepping up and fixing the problem. Three cheers for Ron Smith!

I don't get the point of saying Ron stepped up to the problem because it's not like SA wouldn't have helped with the issue as they weren't given a chance.

How do we as independent thinker's know for sure that there actually was a problem and it got fixed for free and this wasn't some off beat low key way to promote a company?

I'm not implying that this was just a plug for Ron's company but there have been recent instances with similar posts with first time posters starting a thread to move a product but making it appear innocent.

If the OP's rifle had a problem and it got fixed for free thats a pretty nice thing for a business to do for someone especially considering they didn't manufacturer nor sell the original rifle to the customer.

Good points well made.

While SA may have a lifetime warrenty on their M1As I think we should be thankful that there are businesses that "specialize" in M1A work/enhancements.

Because of my preferences I'd send my M1As to an outfit like SEI for work vs. back to SA, although I suspect SA has some sort of specialist that builds their NM and Super Match M1As.

I have used SA's custom shop for traditional NM upgrades, their work in the early 00's was excellent.

Bought a new M1A Tanker, oprod failed to close into full battery every few rounds.
Took the rifle apart and found that the gas piston was jamming in the gas cylinder. Had to knock the Piston out with a mallet.
I sent the cylinder and piston to Ron Smith at Smith enterprises SEI and he determined that the cylinder was badly tapered and undersized causing the Piston to jam. He replaced my gas system with one of his warfighter gas systems.
I just wanted to put this out there for others in case they're having an issue but hopefully this was a one-off quality issue that got through.
Ron Smith made a video for me of him inspecting the cylinder. I will try to post a link, not sure it'll work as it's linked to the M1A and M14 owners Facebook group.
The file is too large to be uploaded here

Could you elaborate on the issue you had? I have experienced a few fails to feed on my new scout squad and I’ve been figuring the gas system may be the issue. Thanks in advance.

I have had similar issues. I just went with a Schuster adjustable gas plug.
Works great for can use, reduces recoil, and keeps the brass a little closer.

Translation:

I recently bought a Springfield M1A Tanker, a beautiful weapon, I had wanted it for years. I ask other owners of Springfield rifles, why does the manufacturer not chrome the barrel for such reliability? Longer service life, higher accuracy, easier cleaning. Who can answer me.
