New Prodigy

Just had my first range day with my 5” Prodigy. I worked the slide 1000 times before the first range day. Cleaned and lubed the gun. Measured the trigger pull out of the box at a clean 4#. I did adjust the over travel several turns. Shot flawlessly 150 rds. Took it home cleaned it and put in an 18# hammer spring and changed recoil to an 8#. Barely tweaked the sear spring. Put back together and WOW! Trigger is now very clean 2 3/4#. Back to the range tomorrow. Very happy with the Prodigy. Will save the round count on my X5 Legion.

I’ve worked my slide vigorously and have put about 300 rounds through it now. Been 100% reliable. The slide to frame fit has become significantly more loose as the ceracoat has worn. Rattles like my Glocks now lol.
While I'm not glad to hear about how your slide has loosened up, I'm relieved because mine has too. It doesn't rattle or anything, but there is a bit more movement than it had when brand new.

When brand new it was rock solid, but now with about 700+ rounds through it, I can see and feel a bit of looseness if I take the slide and wiggle it side to side. I hope that it is finally broken in and doesn't get any worse.

Funny how no one else has mentioned this, or maybe I missed it. I can't believe that we're the only two who have noticed it.

I just checked my Prodigy after reading this. It has 3000 rounds through it and no wiggle or looseness at all. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about your Prodigy feeling a bit loose, it won’t effect the performance. I have an X5 Legion that has rattled from Day 1 and it is crazy accurate and fast.

Thanks for chiming in. I don't mean to doubt you but just to make sure we're on the same page here, if you get a chance please do the following:
With an empty mag inserted and the hammer down, grasp the sides of the slide and wiggle it from side to side. On my Prodigy I can't detect any movement.
Now do the same thing with mag inserted but the hammer in the cocked position. With my Prodigy I can now detect some movement and if I look at the seam between the slide and frame I can see a slight bit of movement. Nothing excessive, but there is some movement.
One last check. With the mag removed and the hammer cocked now wiggle your slide. On mine I can now see and feel more movement. It isn't excessive and it doesn't rattle, but I can easily move the slide to where I can see and feel a bit of slop, more than in the second check.
This last check tests the slide to frame fit without any influence from the hammer or magazine which will support the slide and stop it from moving.
If you can do the third test and you still don't feel any wiggle or loose need I will be surprised. The frame and slide have to have enough clearance to slide back and forth without hanging up. I'm just trying to make sure we are all checking for looseness under the same circumstances. It makes a difference.
I don't know what the specific allowable amount of play is, but I do know that as the Cerekote has worn off and the metal parts have broken in my Prodigy has definitely loosened up. I don't consider it excessive and it doesn't "rattle" like a Glock or some other polymer pistols, but it does have a little bit of slop in it as most pistols do.
The only pistols that I can't detect a bit of slop in are pistols like all metal CZs and others which have full length interlocking rails on the slide and frame instead of the little lugs found on most pistol frames.

Changed back to original recoil spring. Had a couple failure to feed with the 8#.

I have north of 6K rounds through my Prodigy…I’m not seeing the ”loose” fit on mine.
Granted, it’s a 4.25 commander…
I’ll admit that my Staccato P is my go to for everything, but I’m not throwing shade on my Prodigy. It got me into the 2011 market, despite some thoughts of selling it to pickup another pistol, it’s firmly in my safe now. Great shooter, eats everything and is a ton of fun to shoot.

I also have an X5 legion with Sig Armorer’s comp trigger kit. By far best striker fired pistol I’ve ever shot or handled.
If I only had one choice, one pistol to own…it’d be the Staccato. Luckily, I can bake my cake and eat it too….

I’ve got an X5 Legion also and love it. Mine has an Armory Craft trigger. I also have a S&W 52. That is a factory made bullseye gun shooting 38 wadcutter. It has a beautiful factory 2 1/2# trigger. I’ve joked that Legion and Smith Had a baby And named it Prodigy.

Sorry, did all your hoop jumping and I’m not feeling anything. Did the exact same thing to a $500 Tisas 1911 and no movement there either. My new HK45 has a gnats hair worth of side to side movement with the hammer back and mag out. It is almost imperceptible and you have to induce it. Your issue is much ado about nothing IMHO. If you think you have an issue send it to SA. I suspect I know what their response will be.

FWIW, all three of these guns are completely reliable and unbelievably accurate.

I have zero concerns over how mine has loosened up. It runs 100% just significantly more loose than new which is a given. I can shake the firearm in my hand and hear rattle from the slide/frame using all the conditions above. Again a non-issue just an observation. I have a long background as an armorer for military and LE firearms…I’m used to stuff that rattles lol. It’s a production piece and a beautiful one at that! Certainly my new favorite handgun.

All P320's are loose by design.

Yep.. Got north of 6 to 7K rounds through my X5. I honestly treat it like a Glock. If I think about cleaning it… I forget about it… after about 3-5 trips to the range, I’ll wipe it down, give it a few dabs of grease…and run it some more. I maintain my Prodigy, Staccato, and Canik a little more :)

Thanks for checking. I'm not really worried about my Prodigy but since the subject of slide to frame fit came up I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else has noticed any change in how their Prodigy has changed/not changed since it's been in use.

RLB… after 1000 to 1500 rounds, I noticed the slide action was much smoother.
At/around 2500ish, I put EGW ignition in.
My Prodigy has just over 5K through it, I replaced the recoil spring just for maintenance, no other issues.
I’ve not noticed any looseness or other issues with mine.
My only gripe about the Prodigy is how crappy the safety is, compared to my Staccato, it’s horrible.
Very mushy, not very tactile clicks on or off….
I know it’s as simple as getting a new safety, so…call me lazy :)

I feel like my Prodigy has gotten better and better. It’s a real pleasure to shoot. The only thing I’ve done to mine is put a 12lb recoil spring and replaced the two piece guide rod. I have both the 10-8 reverse plug and GI guide rod and the Dawson tool-less one-piece.
