I just checked my Prodigy after reading this. It has 3000 rounds through it and no wiggle or looseness at all. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about your Prodigy feeling a bit loose, it won’t effect the performance. I have an X5 Legion that has rattled from Day 1 and it is crazy accurate and fast.
Thanks for chiming in. I don't mean to doubt you but just to make sure we're on the same page here, if you get a chance please do the following:
With an empty mag inserted and the hammer down, grasp the sides of the slide and wiggle it from side to side. On my Prodigy I can't detect any movement.
Now do the same thing with mag inserted but the hammer in the cocked position. With my Prodigy I can now detect some movement and if I look at the seam between the slide and frame I can see a slight bit of movement. Nothing excessive, but there is some movement.
One last check. With the mag removed and the hammer cocked now wiggle your slide. On mine I can now see and feel more movement. It isn't excessive and it doesn't rattle, but I can easily move the slide to where I can see and feel a bit of slop, more than in the second check.
This last check tests the slide to frame fit without any influence from the hammer or magazine which will support the slide and stop it from moving.
If you can do the third test and you still don't feel any wiggle or loose need I will be surprised. The frame and slide have to have enough clearance to slide back and forth without hanging up. I'm just trying to make sure we are all checking for looseness under the same circumstances. It makes a difference.
I don't know what the specific allowable amount of play is, but I do know that as the Cerekote has worn off and the metal parts have broken in my Prodigy has definitely loosened up. I don't consider it excessive and it doesn't "rattle" like a Glock or some other polymer pistols, but it does have a little bit of slop in it as most pistols do.
The only pistols that I can't detect a bit of slop in are pistols like all metal CZs and others which have full length interlocking rails on the slide and frame instead of the little lugs found on most pistol frames.
