New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

Yesterday I ordered a .308 precision rifle from SA and they had the scope mount on sale so I picked that up as well. I bought the loaded version with the synthetic stock in .308. I am more familiar with .308 than the 6.5 and have reloaded it for a long time. Plus most of my shooting will be at a maximum of 300 yards, so that should work just fine.

I have not decided on an optic yet but I am leaning toward a Vortex with big glass in the front. Any suggestions are welcome, I can get my best deals from Vortex, Leupold, Nightforce, Leica and a couple of others. I will be shooting iron sights for the next month and then will be able to pick up a scope, so I have plenty of time to research it.

I owned one about 8 or 9 years ago and had very few problems with it. I reloaded all kinds of bullets and powders and I remember having a malfunction or two but even with hollow points and soft tips it was fine. I will let you know when I have had a chance to take it to the range but I am not anticipating anything.

Need pics when you get it, congrats! Enjoy it!

My M1A Loaded (not precision, but has the NM barrel and trigger) has eaten any 7.62x51 or .308 round I've fed it.

Mine is my personal homage to Full Metal Jacket, so no glass on mine...sorry. Swapped the glass stock for wood, with a wood top-handguard as well to complete the 1960-s M14 appearance.

This is the model I decided to get. I think it should go out in the next few days.

Aimpoint 5000 .... For nostalgia

Best optic you can afford. Can't go wrong with Nightforce or Leupold

Just curious on if you ordered directly from SA because SA doesn't sell firearms direct to the public. Did you order from a local dealer or online site?

SA does sell accessories direct but not firearms.

I only ask because there are fake websites out there that pose as legitimate manufacturers.

As a NRA instructor I am allowed to order 1 or 2 Firearms a year, directly from SA (shipped to my local FFL). My dealer charges me $55 for the transfer.

The TRP Operator shown here is the last one I got that way. So it is not a scam but a very nice benefit to certified instructors.

It's here! It came in yesterday, but I didn't have time to go get it until today. Now to decide which scope to put on it. I bought the mount already since SA had a nice discount on it. I am currently leaning toward a Vortex Razor model, but can't decide on which one. FFP or SFP is a place of indecision at this point. I think I will shoot it for a month and wait until my next retirement check comes in to get the scope and rings, probably a bipod as well. Range report pending.

I have been researching / pricing scopes and one that comes up as a very good price is the Steiner T6Xi 5-30x56. Has anyone got any experience with this one or a similar model? I will primarily be punching holes in paper and hitting steel plates out to 400 yards. I like the idea of the large objective lens and wide power range. These are made in the USA and I think the lenses are made in Germany. I have had a small pair of Steiner binoculars for a long time (probably 20 years) and they are pretty nice and still work fine. This scope is a FFP and the price is very good.
