People losing jobs over Trump remarks.

Just like when I was in the service guys used to say all kind of BS until one sergeant set us straight. He said "Just because you fight for a democracy doesn't mean you work for one so dig that ditch you son of a b....ch you're in the ARMY now". You can do it my way or do it my way, which one would you like. We never complained or gave our opinions in front of him again.

I read an article this morning that said a number of people have lost their jobs over social media posts saying they wished the shooter hadn't missed Trump.
Now I do enjoy seeing an A-hole get their due, but I also believe in the Constitution and the 1st Amendment. I may not agree with what you say. I may even hate you for what you say. But I do support your right to say it.
Just curious, how do y'all feel about this? Is it right for a person to get fired for their opinions and social media posts?
Well…

It’s not a directive of the US Gov’t ordering them to be fired…it’s individual businesses. So, the 1A really doesn’t apply.

Additionally: you have the right to speak your mind; you do NOT have a right to be immune from the consequences.

Some right wing tic tacker has been doxxing people who made comments like “ Too bad he missed” and the like. A teacher, a Home Depot cashier and a fireman all lost their jobs for being too stupid not to say that kind of crap online.

The lefties are boo hooing about it too. Calling it hypocrisy. Even though they do it.

I have no sympathy for, well anyone really, but certainly not for people dumb enough to say things that can hurt them on the internet or in front of a camera.

i think the firings depend on where and when the social media posts were made..

1) on company property.>??

many companies do not approve of that.

2) at your house..??

then it's your business

3) at your house but you mention where/who you work for..?? such as in your social media home page.??

then you included your employer in your opinions.

4) at your house, you do not mention your employer, but you are clearly wearing company clothing that everyone can see the name, or just know that employer..??

many companies do not approve of that.

so i think circumstances dictate how or why one is fired.
There ya' are ... a lot covered in a few words, and all of it right on the mark. Your opinion is yours and you are free to speak about it as long as it doesn't violate conditions of employment that you previously agreed to, or violates current law regarding hate speech/similar. One can violate the above mentioned, but should expect to suffer relative consequences. Note: "Freedom of speech is a right', which guarantees one's right to say it ... but that does not guarantee a right to no consequences.

companies have rules that protect their brand and their business (even outside of the place of business). one can choose to follow those rules and work there without issue, or break those rules and get fired.
the bill of rights protects us from the government from infringing upon our god given rights, not companies. if someone doesn't like the company rules they are free to find employment somewhere else.
There ya' are again ... it's really a simple concept!!! It's called 'consequences' for one's actions.

Frankly it proves that common sense is no longer a factor in our current society.

I agree with your thoughts. 1st Amendment and the Constitution are the Apex thoughts here. Regardless of how I feel about the gunman's marksmanship skills, I should be able to say them freely. We're still in America. Having spent a lot of years in corporate America, you should have the sense to know when it isn't appropriate to say things in front of your boss/co-workers (Self preservation) I do not, however, believe that people can say very reckless things that inspire others to take illegal action. We used to have legit courts that we could count on to settle these types of matters.

Not one of any other news outlets have said anything but this one……either it’s fake or another conspiracy……
Halperin said multiple sources say it’s going to happen this weekend. Halperin is a lefty, but he is an actual journalist and all his breaking stories always come with actual sources. He has integrity and pretty much always gets it right. I saw it coming this weekend a few days ago so I’m not surprised in the least.
