Potent Potables (aka What’s your poison?)

I didn’t get a pic, but…I did have a couple nice whiskeys (Writer’s Tears) in the pub after my wife and I toured the lakes district in the rain.

It was cold, and wet…but beautiful.

Elvis Juice.

It’s interesting seeing the takes in American beer styles over here; this is a fruity IPA, 6.5%…and they only give you 2/3 pint; anything over 6% is 2/3, anything over 7% is 1/2, and anything over 10% is 1/3 pint. In my normal watering hole, anything over 7-8% is a 9oz pour.

Anyway, this is incredibly light for a fruity ipa; not nearly as aggressively hopped as I expected.

This is not a bad thing.

After a morning of souvenir shopping, my wife is pooped, and being a bit smarter than the average bear, I know when to make myself scarce.

So I popped across the street to a bar that was frequented by the likes of Samuel Beckett and Oscar Wilde for a proper Irish lunch.;)

Say what you will, but these folks know their way around a potato.

Look for absence of Dewars Scotch, it will be hard to find. That swill is 90% export from the Uk. Locals wont drink it.
Also Bushmills and Jameson usually wont be found in most bars together.
The whole Protestant/Catholic thing
Haig whisky is common in bars here; a brand I don’t see much of in the states.

And the prominent whiskeys at this last bar were Redbreast (up to 21yr) and Green/Yellow/Red Spot.

Hotel bar has Jameson…but the bartender recommended Writers Tears the other day, and…it’s pretty dang good.
