Prodigy issues

Arlo21

Operator
I’m new here not to 1911s or 2011s.I was wondering if anyone else is having nothing but issues in these new pistols. I’ll attach a few of the FTF and the disconnecter locking back the frame without the stop engaged. Also having light strikes and failure to return to battery. Used mbx sti and SA mags.Used Fjm and no chance of hollow points working.SA has it back now so I guess we’ll see but any feed back is appreciated. And yes….. I painfully “broke in” the run with 600 assorted rounds. Thanks everyone

Try a 12lb recoil spring, the factory one is 9lb and is to light, my Springfield RO Operator 9mm had same issue, changed the spring and issue was gone, this should help it to go back into battery correctly and should help the FTF problem, it did for me

Welcome to the forum. Lot of good information from these folks. They will most likely have some thoughts on it.
Seems to be many issues with the Prodigy. Hopefully it all shakes out.

Thanks for the reply.I hoped it was the spring but unfortunately it didn’t work. The slide still hangs on the disconnecter like in the pic also FTF with all mags and different ammo.SA has it now hope they figure it out.I figure they have to know what to do since all the sponsorship shooters prodigy’s work flawlessly.

Just best to send it back. If you are not riding the slide and you shot 600 rounds through it it should be well worn in. Curious if you kept track if it was certain magazines? What ammo? Was it reloads?

Also I thought it was reported that the 4.25 Prodigy already had a heavier spring? The Op has the “tiny” prodigy look at the dust cover.

at least 2 observations.

1st observation, i find this somewhat interesting. here is this new Prodigy, a 1911 gun, with a "squared" trigger guard, and no one is griping about it.

yet, when the Emissary came out, many were saying something like, "no way would i want that style trigger guard on a 1911" (or words to that effect) , and not necessarily this website, but others i have been to

has acceptance of a squared trigger guard on a 1911 been embraced by 1911 fanboys..???

and 2nd observation...much like the SA-35...problems with a new design/build, from the get-go.

i cannot recall too many other new builds, (from any maker) that have been problematic, but then again too, i have only now 2.9 years into this game, and don't own guns from every maker.

No reloads put through it. It was all brand name new ammo from 115-147 FMJ and hollow points wouldn’t feed even once. Tried Speer, hornady,Winchester, etc. SA does have the pistol. The rep on the phone said I was the only one LOL guess she was trying to make me feel better. The gun is way undersprung but there’s a lot going on besides that. The in fitted disconnecter stopping and slowing the slide is crazy to me.How does SA let this happen. There’s so many pistols having issues. It’s my third 2011 and I know the platform can be finicky but this is crazy.

Oh sorry, yes all mags. Stock, sti and MBX all same issues.

I think we also need to define whats a problematic launch. 50 people with issues? 100? 1,000? 5,000? Half? 90%? We only hear from a limited sample. People who A. use forums. B. Have issues. C. Post. All the rest we hear nothing from.

quick to get to market.

i think any gun maker should "Beta test" these new designs/builds for at least 1 full year, before mass producing them.

i'm sure plenty of employee's would volunteer for that duty.
I agree, I mean $1500 you would think it would at least cycle a round.I really like the gun. I think SA will do right. What y’all think? Will they fix it? I’m not a YouTuber but upon arrival I will be doing a out of the box no cuts live video after it’s deemed “fixed”

Well my dealer got 10.All but 1 has been returned to SA. Can’t speak for the rest of folks but I’m not seeing any regular folks like us putting out good prodigy videos.Only good reviews coming from people that get free guns for review.Everyone is having the same issues. I saw where SA claims this to be a good duty pistol. How do you claim that with all these issues.

yes, and that's why we will never get a "full count". A-B & C

no company in thier right mind will say how many issues they are having.

i'll take it another step.....the tv set "black box"...or the "Nielsen ratings box"

1 tv set in 1 home way back when, represented about 100 home viewers, if i recall

so, maybe 1 issue, could translate into maybe 100 others having same issue..???

when you think of the mass produced units..???

they will most certainly fix it. they have to, they owe you.

i have a SA 35, no issues, but it is a high serial number in production.

if i had a low numbered one, and had to send it back more than 1 time like some have?

i'd get it back fixed, then dump it.

i'd not out up with multiple factory repairs.

Another thing is all these people home fixing a new gun. I been seeing people mirror polishing tails and ramps to taking material off the disconnecter for a smoother slide then it still doesn’t work and after jobob smith does that SA won’t take it back for warranty work. New pistol out of the box shouldn’t be this bad. Am I wrong?

no, you are not wrong, and i'd think the warranty would have been voided if anyone but the factory works on them

Yeah they get one chance at a fix. Obviously they made sure Colion Noirs ran perfect and other popular shooters so I know what the gun is capable of.

but, how many "visits" to the factory will someone put up with?

for me, only 1..(for myself)

i had to send back my Kimber Custom 2 tone. they did a great job, gave me a very detailed work order.

but if it starts giving me problems?

1 LAST visit to the factory, then when i get it back?

it goes to the LGS to get dumped in his used gun display case, but at least, it'll have been "repaired"

One and done for me. If it comes back with 1 issue I’m done because watching these sponsors pistols run flawlessly tells me they know what to do. It’s like they were counting on us fixing them ourselves which a lot of ppl are doing and that baffles me.
