I've been good. I stayed away during the election to avoid getting into arguments with the people here. That would only have been irritating for everyone involved and no one would have changed and minds. Instead I was working, bouncing around the world, doing races and woodwork, etc. How've you been?My dad bought a colt (something other than an actual equine this time) back in '78 or '79 which was less than the today's cost of a psa. It wasn't that accurate. Nutt'n wrong with the psa as it's a 100% in house made iirc.
How ya been? It's been awhile since you've posted, well except for the last week.
A sound recommendation. Thanks.Colts are supposedly getting better, but they had a spate of several years of untorqued/loose barrel nuts, and several other QC issues.
Definitely get the PSA as a plinker.
Been busy getting all info needed to turn in about the fire last March. Keep getting stuck behind other people on the list for estimates. Other than that it's been fine and busy as 3 are still in school, 1 is busy with band (senior) and twins (freshmen) starting up track. Snow is on it's last melt, but it's helping the much needed soil profile.I've been good. I stayed away during the election to avoid getting into arguments with the people here. Something nice to plink with would be very nice. I was out at a local range with my cousin and his kid last weekend, using the "Battleship" game paper targets to see who sunk all the ships first. It was a lot of fun and a .22lr and .22WMR worked great, but he might enjoy something with more of a bang, and a .308 or .300PRC are a bit much for his 9-year-old frame. A decently accurate AR might be just the ticket.
PSAIs there a reason to get a Colt Ar15A4 over a PSA at half the price? Strictly for function, it won't be getting any goodies on it or anything, just for plinking. Just an open sighted rifle in 5.56/.223.
That's the kind of info I'm looking for. Maybe a higher quality version at some point but this one will be mostly for time with the next generation.I'd go PSA over the Colt because they are both entry level ARs with PSA coming in at almost half the price and no sacrifice in quality. I wouldn't say that the PSA is better. I would say that there will be no discernable difference in performance or reliability between the two.
I just bought a radical arms for under 400. pretty nice rifle for the money. I have old colts, it's on par with some of them. never owned a PSA.That's the kind of info I'm looking for. Maybe a higher quality version at some point but this one will be mostly for time with the next generation.
The o rings though were specifically to address crappy extractor springs. Most quality BCGs come with them, some quality BCGs already have stronger extractor and injector springs and some companies like BCM and Sprinco offer enhanced spring kits. I can tell you that the Sprinco 5 coil spring comes with an insert and an o ring and Alan Duggar recommends you pick one but don’t use both. The fact is though you don’t need either. If you use an o ring or an insert with a Sprinco 5 coil spring it’s gonna gouge up your brass, if that’s a concern, it’s gonna be really hard to get the extractor pin in and out and you better let the charging handle fly because if you ride it even a little bit it’s not gonna grab the shell.Prior to AWB94 sundowning, Colt was the gold standard when it came to AR’s; they had features which now are considered standard, such as MP inspected bolts & barrels, chrome lined bores, M4 feed ramps, the proper extractor o-rings…things that their main competitors (Bushmaster & DPMS) didn’t do.
They still do all these things, but in the last 20+ years, there’s now literally dozens of companies that do the same.
That’s 20+ years of progress, though. The o rings though were specifically to address crappy extractor springs. I know. And I agree. I was just pointing out that the o ring was first used by Colt to remedy weak or worn out extractor springs. That’s 20+ years of progress, though.
In the 90’s, 2000’s, there were no Sprinco kits, etc…BCM didn’t exist, either.
I was just pointing out why Colt was the one to beat, at one time.
