Red Light Cameras

well, here, no matter who was in the car, they got your plate. the owner gets the ticket. i know, we have a judge on tv, here, and that's just what he did, he told the car owner, he was responsible for the ticket, since it was his car, and for the owner, to get reimbursed from the person he let drive it that day.

money makers for sure, but they got you dead on the spot.
No, they got your car dead on the spot. Those are moving violations so it isn't a matter of just recouping money for the ticket.

No matter. I guess it only affects those who don't live in free states.

too bad you feel that way, but i fully support cameras at every street corner. on every highway, and bi-way, on all buildings either town, city, or state owned for surveillance.

so a home owner that has a camera or 2, on his house, is violating your rights, when you are walking on the sidewalk in front of his house..??

higwash.

no, you do not have any more privacy, when you leave the comfort of your home, or your property. you can gripe and file a complaint (i believe) with the FCC if someone flies a drone over your "airspace" on your property. but once you step foot in the street, all bets are off.

how is it then, that state police can look into your car, either from an overpass, or riding beside you, see that you are not wearing a seatbelt, and pull you over to give you a ticket?

you are OUT in the public, away from your domain (home, property).

you ;ost your right to any privacy, once you leave your property
What? That's insane and totally unAmerican.

no, here red light cameras as well as school zone cameras are listed as "civil offenses", and as such do not go onto your driving record.

i am not sure of what happens, if one fails to pay the fine?

and NO, they got the owner of the car dead on. the owner is 100% responsible for the fine. from there, it would be up to him/her to maybe take the offending driver with them to court (which then the judge "might" pass the fine to that driver) , or the owner pay the fine then try and get the driver to reimburse them.

it's the way it is, anyone (like you) can debate this all you want, but it is what it is here.

(the owner of the vehicle gets a notice in the mail, then either pays the fine, or shows up in court with the driver of the time. meaning the owner has "some time" before the fine payment is due, to explain what happened)

there just is no debating things the way this is set up.

What I don't like about them is people become conscious of them they tend to slam on the brakes when light turns yellow causing rear end collisions.
I always use my Waze app and it always warns me of red light intersections.
My response to an App that “warns” you of an intersection that has a red light in use is your not paying attention to your surroundings while your driving.
Something that has stayed with me is the instructor that taught me how to drive an L9000 delivery truck with 3 rear axles, one thing he drilled into me was always focus when approaching an intersection that is showing a green light that 75% of the time the light will change to yellow then red before you get there so be prepared to slow down and stop a head of time.
Using that mind set eliminates the slamming on of brakes when the light turns yellow. Take a moment during your travels to watch people brake at intersections, 80% will brake at the last moment which causes their vehicle lurch forward and back when stopped, this is a classic example of drivers not paying attention.

yeah, try "slamming on the brakes", with a tanker.....!!!!!!

as a retired trucker of many years myself, (as well as a CDL instructor) "anticipation" was paramount to safe driving, no accidents, and no tickets.

Exactly. As a caveat to my last post the vehicle brake system should not be used as a reverse thrust system, every vehicle I have owned my initial brake pads/shoes have lasted 60-80 thousand miles because I never use them as an emergency brake every time I stop!! My ex-wife well I replaced hers every 25K miles.

I remember being rear ended by a semi however it was not his fault, I was stopped in traffic in a blind corner and as he couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting me, he wasn’t going fast so the damage was minor and I went to bat for him with the DOT (Connecticut) so he wouldn’t lose his license.

The second lady I almost married was a horrible driver and wrecked a car once a year. She carried a handgun in her purse and the last car I remember while we were together she was digging for something in her purse while driving and accidentally pulled the trigger sending a round down through the seat and the bottom of the car, I didn’t date her after that. 😂
