2) acted with reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of their statement
I'd say that the media did this by labeling him as a white supremacist and such, just to incite and create/further a narrative, that was known to be fallacious. BLM was there and I've heard a lot of people thinking that it was black people that he shot. They didn't do that on accident. As to the legality of it, I have no idea, that's not my profession. I do think that the media needs more accountability and needs to be held responsible for lying to the public constantly. Surprisingly, there are still people out there who believe what the legacy media spins.

As for civil suits, good luck with that. The kid won’t have to pay for attorneys and when they win the people suing him will be liable for their fees. In the end I’m pretty sure the kid is going to wind up firmly in the black. Wasn’t he a minor when it happened ? I don’t see civil suits going anywhere. Maybe Wisconsin has a preemptive law against it like Missouri does.

Who do you think he has a case against?
Whole busloads of people in the various arms of the Ministry of Propaganda, who called him a murderer, white supremacist, he stole the gun, took the gun across state lines, etc. etc. etc. Lies, all lies!

Oh yes. He's about to become a very, very rich young man. And good for him! ;)

We're going to have to disagree on that. I don't see him winning anything.

It absolutely is a 2A victory, especially coming in the current political atmosphere…

But - and I say this not having delved into the case - I’ll always wonder what business he had going where he did and for what purpose he thought he had.
My .02
Regardless, its his business and he has the right to defend himself. Those who do know felt he was in the right and we should all be glad

Against who, and what are the facts that support a defamation claim? He did shoot three people, two did die, at least one was questionable based on the evidence at hand pre-trial, and he was charged with murder. It's not libel or defamation to speculate on the outcome of a trial or offer an opinion about someone's actions. He has to show that someone made a false statement OF FACT, not opinion (with few exceptions), and he has to show they 1) knew their statements of fact were false, 2) acted with reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of their statement, or 3) negligently failed to ascertain if the statements of fact were true or false before making them. Who do you think he has a case against?
Candidate number one - CNN reporter who stated that he murdered 2 people (murder is a criminal offense of which he has been found not guilty) and was forced to walk back the comment.
Candidate number two - Joe Biden called him a White Supremist of which there is no proof of him belonging to any group other than being a Police Cadets
Candidates number three on up - Any of the other liberal news medias that continually published falsehoods after they had already been disproven.

I am glad he was acquitted. In my view, the district attorney should be run out of town on a rail for charging him with murder in the first place. I watched a few clips of the DA, and some of his actions were not becoming a DA and a gentleman, to borrow a phrase. I was a little concerned the jurors would be afraid to find him innocent because they could become targets of the mob then. I doubt there will be demonstrations in Kenosha since it is cold there.

A statement from the parent's of one of the rioter/attackers. All seems libelous and slanderous to me.

"We are heartbroken and angry that Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted in his criminal trial for the murder of our son Anthony Huber. There was no justice today for Anthony, or for Mr. Rittenhouse’s other victims, Joseph Rosenbaum and Gaige Grosskreutz.
We did not attend the trial because we could not bear to sit in a courtroom and repeatedly watch videos of our son’s murder, and because we have been subjected to many hurtful and nasty comments in the past year. But we watched the trial closely, hoping it would bring us closure.
That did not happen. Today’s verdict means there is no accountability for the person who murdered our son. It sends the unacceptable message that armed civilians can show up in any town, incite violence, and then use the danger they have created to justify shooting people in the street. We hope that decent people will join us in forcefully rejecting that message and demanding more of our laws, our officials, and our justice system.
Make no mistake: our fight to hold those responsible for Anthony’s death accountable continues in full force. Neither Mr. Rittenhouse nor the Kenosha police who authorized his bloody rampage will escape justice. Anthony will have his day in court.
No reasonable person viewing all of the evidence could conclude that Mr. Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. In response to racist and violent calls to action from militia members, Mr. Rittenhouse travelled to Kenosha illegally armed with an assault rifle. He menaced fellow citizens in the street. Though he was in open violation of a curfew order, Kenosha police encouraged him to act violently. Kenosha police told militia members that they would push peaceful protestors toward the militia so that the militia could “deal with them.” Soon after, Mr. Rittenhouse killed Joseph Rosenbaum. The police did nothing. Concerned citizens, confronted with a person shooting indiscriminately on the street, stepped in to stop the violence. Anthony was shot in the chest trying to disarm Mr. Rittenhouse and stop his shooting spree. Still, the police did nothing. Mr. Rittenhouse continued to shoot, maiming Gaige Grosskreutz. The police let Mr. Rittenhouse leave the scene freely. Mr. Rittenhouse came to Kenosha armed to kill. Kenosha police encouraged him to act violently, and our son is dead as a result.
We are so proud of Anthony, and we love him so much. He is a hero who sacrificed his own life to protect other innocent civilians. We ask that you remember Anthony and keep him in your prayers."

Man, that is one distorted view of what happened. I understand their grief over losing a son, but this is a bunch of BS.

That's not going to support a slander or libel case. If it did, anyone who called OJ a murderer would be on the hook for slander since he was acquitted. So would Hannity every time he called someone a socialist if that person was not, in fact, a registered socialist. The parents do have a different take on the people chasing Kyle than do the people here but they are right about a number of the facts. He was illegally armed with a rifle, he was there in volation of a curfew, he did kill Rosenbaum, Huber did try to disarm him, he did kill Huber, a militia did put out a call to gather in Kenosha, and the police didn't do anything after the shootings and let him leave freely. Their opinions about the killing being murder and the shooting being indiscriminate are not libel or slander. It's a difference of opinion.

Maybe the parents should accept responsibility for their little angels that attacked Kyle with a skateboard and the other standing over him with a Glock in his hand.
They just saw him shoot someone dead. If those are all the facts they had at hand and they tried to stop the shooter, they did a noble thing. That's right along the lines of "the only thing that beats a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." Or a skateboard.

I was fairly convinced he was guilty of murder for the first shooting, the guy who threw a bag at him, until the evidence showed that guy threatened him and was chasing him before that. I disagree with Kyle's decision to get involved, and I do think showing up with a rifle is a bad decision that's going to escalate situations like this, but from the evidence presented and the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard I think it's the right result. I hope there is a lesson learned here: leave "defending" businesses that aren't yours to the police and the Guard. He should never have been there in the first place.
Anyone can disagree or not with Kyle's decision. The people that were there to riot were in error first of all. Then the authorities that stood by (mayor, governor, police, etc) are also culpable. If the rioters weren't there, then most likely none of this may have taken place. Kyle stood up when all the others did not.

Yep. Apparently, Wisconsin has 500 National Guard troops there to quell any riots. Perhaps if they had done this for the first set of riots, no one would ever have heard of Kyle Rittenhouse.

The facts are simple, he was not carrying illegally, he was carrying a legal weapon in a legal manner. Someone approached him, and admittedly pointed his gun at at Rittenhouse first, while threatening him. He admitted to this in court. If someone pointed a gun at you and threatened you, would you not do the same thing? The leftist media tries hard to convict based on media based and biased opinion. Here is where the jury said no. It isn't popular in the black community or leftist community in large part because the media only tells the facts that support their agenda. News, like any other multi-billion dollar a year industry, is driven by its financial supporters.
