Shotgun gurus

For those Benelli gurus! I went on the Benelli site for answers, but didn't find what I was looking for. What it the difference between m2, m4 and m1014 in tactical versions? I see where the m1014 (seems to be m4) might only be renamed m1014 because of the stoke difference? I don't see much difference between the m2 and m4 except for the bolt and maybe the cleaning (gas system) difference?

The M2 is different than the M4/M1014.

The M4/M1014 are the same shotgun but with some furniture & cosmetic differences.

The M1014 is the US mil-spec version, and there are 3-4 versions of the M4 all depending on stock & finish differences.

And capacity.

The other Benellis are different altogether. M4 is the only one with the ARGO gas system, M3 is a hybrid which can be pump action or SA at the turn of a dial.

Don't know about the M3, but as per BBs comments the M1014 comes with 7 + 1 capacity, whereas the M4 models are 5 +1 but the aftermarket exists to replace the entire mag tube with a 7 shell version, or to add 2+ ectensions on to the 5 rd tube.
Indeed. As long as you are 922 (r) compliant. At some point in the near future I will have an M4 with the extended tube, 7 round mag, collapsible stock and enhanced controls. In the meanwhile I guess I'll just have to suffer through with this 1301T.

There are aftermarket tube extensions for both the M2 and the M3.

Yeah, my M1014 only came with a five round mag tube, and although the butt stock is the the collapsible stock, the stock recoil tube does not contain the notches to actually collapse. You can buy the collapsible recoil tube and either a full 7 round mag tube or 2 round mag extension to add to the 5, but like others have mentioned, you need to stay 922r compliant When swapping in these parts. The butt stock and recoil tube are considered 2 separate parts, so for 922r compliance, I’ll need to change 4 (instead of 3), parts made in the US. I do plan on eventually make these mods (going with a full 7 round mag tube), and as Bob has mentioned in previous threads, will probably bring the cost of this beauty close to 3k.

The M2 and M4 bolts are identical. The M2 is pure inertia drive. The M3 was designed to run "less than lethal" which would require manual cycling for reliability. The M4 uses inertia and gas. The gas has (by comparison) huge ports with very short pistons to get things going. The gas system is near identical to Berettas 1301 and Mossbergs 930/940. Operation is the same.

I hadn't heard that. Beretta's B LINK system is a cross tube gas piston. They claim it cycles 36% faster than anything else in existence.

I'd also be interested in seeing where you came up with the M4 being gas and inertia because everything I have read on the ARGO system says it is NOT recoil operated at all.

Yeah, but damn, what a shotgun. All the reviews and comparisons between the M4 and the 1301 say the recoil is noticeably softer on the M4. The 1301 handles recoil VERY well so the Benelli must be a dream. I am imagining it is similar to felt recoil on the TS-12, which is an incredibly soft shooting shotgun. Magnum slugs feel about the same as 2 3/4 00B in the Beretta.

Alas, there are very few fields where excellent isn't good enough for Bassbob and shotguns is apparently one of them. Now that I have the Beretta out of the way my brain is acutely focused on securing the M1014. Again, I blame you. ;)

The inertia drive is 100% there. I think the ARGO is there for reliability. The bolt and carrier, I swapped with my 1201 Beretta and a buddies M2. We couldn't find any differences. The M4 just had the additional gas system. Since inertia drive can't be heavy or have extra crap strapped to it is why I think Benelli chose to implement the ARGO. Even under the worst conditions with a less than ideal shooting position (breaching doors, unsupported suppressive fire around corners) it works. Nearly as reliable as its pump cousin the 590. I know, I gush about the M4, but it's deserved. That thing is to modern shotguns what the M1 garand was to battle rifles.

Now I blame BET7 AND you. :ROFLMAO:

My only complaint is, i got stubby arms. The 14+" LOP is a shade long for me. But that Beretta fits like a glove, a velvet glove😏
I took mine out for the first time last weekend and put about 400 through it. Just an amazing shotgun in every respect.

The 1201 is inertia and the 1301 is B Link gas system. I assume you meant the 1201 has virtually the same system ad the Mossberg 930/940 ?

Well, I’m sorry about enticing you with the M1014 Bob 😋, so I don’t dare show you any of my new acquisitions 🤤 to entice you further, (even though you live vicariously through me, while I add to my collection) 😭 😆😂🤣

No no, I will manage. Show me whatcha bought this week buddy. :)
Well, to be fair, it was more like the last two weeks or so (and to others, sorry about the temporary highjacking of this thread, but Bob insisted 😆):
