Regarding operation. If remember correctly, the 2 little gas pistons are tapped real close to the chamber like maybe 3-4 inches past breach. Those pistons strike the bottom of the bolt carrier and get the ball rolling. I should have experimented more, but I'll bet a nickel it would run without the 2 tappets.

I was on their website for better info and watched whatever vids they had.

This video does a great job showing how the inertia drive works. The magic is in the bolt. It has been beat to death that the M2 was lacking because it wouldn't function reliably with a bunch of $hit pinned to the sides, because it would add weight offering resistance to rearward travel. Now, the M4 on the other hand is a heavier weapon on its own, add to that , these kids in service are gonna have red dots or holo-sights and they'll be firing from unorthodox positions with little support. That's where I believe the ARGOS comes in, to get the ball rolling.
In the next description of the M4 they still show the pre-load on the bolt head with the rearward travel of the entire weapon but with a few differences. The trigger releases the next round onto the elevator vs the rear travel of the bolt carrier. Second, the tappets are shoving the bolt carrier back with the weapon instead of the delayed compression of the bolt spring knocking it back.

I know we got off topic, but hey, let's see if you see what I see. I still think it'll run without the tappets if you're using magnum slugs

I saw the second vid before I posted the one I did, which I think was clearer.

That being said, Benelli does not descibe anywhere that the M1014/M4 operating system is inertia-driven like the M2, or even inertia-influenced in its operation.

The pistons are part of the operating system, and indicating/thinking it would work without them is problematic.

If one would would want to see how an M1014/M4 would work (or not) without the ARGO pistons installed then they should do it at their own risk, and the risk of damage to a $2K shotgun.

My .02

Agreed, and if i still had mine i would. There really needs to be an emoji kicking its own @$$. Cuz I'd use it for sure. Sure miss it.
The bolt is locked in the barrel extension, it'll either function or not. No, I'm not suggesting anyone else try it. I'm just stating that the magic is in the bolt, I believe it is 2 systems at work. I believe either system would stand on its own. Just my opinion.

Well, to be fair, it was more like the last two weeks or so (and to others, sorry about the temporary highjacking of this thread, but Bob insisted šŸ˜†):

Nice guns, my favorite pic of what you posted is the last oneā€¦..

Single, retired with a modest pension but built up a nice savings account before leaving. I have investments and 401K that I don't touch, but with the current economy (Let's Go Brandon, get this economy moving again šŸ˜€ ), I'm taking a bit of a hit with the recent market fluctuations.
What's even worse, is I started my collection in 2014. I really do need to slow down, but these firearms just keep calling my name ;)
