Springfield Armory 1911DS Prodigy FF issues

so first of all, SA does make many fine firearms. You should take a look around, based on needs and budget of course, yet I would look at their rifles - all of them are well regarded. I've heard good things about the 1911 pistol family as well. Best of luck and btw everyone gets a difficult system once in a while - all manufacturers occasionally make one.
Thank you! I'm not concerned with price, I have already dropped $1500 into the prodigy which is nothing more than a very cool looking paper weight at this point. I will give them another go at sending a working prodigy but if the third one doesn't work then I will see if I can choose a rifle.

My Prodigy 4.25 developed hammer-follow at around 400 rounds. Springfield paid shipping and I have nearly 100 rounds through it since. It hasn't had a single issue since with a wide variety of ammo. It is, by far, my favorite gun to shoot. The Prodigy was my first Springfield but it won't be my last. They stand behind their products and care for customers without red tape. The gun will be a favorite once it is fixed.
1000 rounds, not 100

Follow-up question, if they'll let me switch out for another SA firearm do you have any suggestions or something that would be quality/dependable in a handgun or rifle? I was looking at the Saint AR-9, I don't love that it's direct blowback though. I just worry that they have quality issues across the board. Thanks!
Well, I like the Garrison, Ronin is also very nice, the Echelon is also very nice, but all these are cheaper then your Prodigy. In all honesty, you can get a bad gun from any manufacturer, in all my 40+ years into firearms, I have had more issues with S&W revolvers then any other manufacturer.

They are not going to switch it for another firearm. For a sticking slide, rack it a couple of hundred times while you’re watching tv or something similar. The Prodigy has a cerakoted slide and the coating is known to build up in places and causing the slide to stick. Racking the slide will wear down the high spots.

Some amazing possibly miraculous news, the prodigy works! I was abled to reassemble despite the slide issues. Once it was reassembled the slide seemed to work properly so I gave it a go at the range. Only one jam out of 100 rounds, and that was early on. It's an awesome gun when it works, hopefully it will continue to work. Thank you for all your support and advice!

That is GREAT news, I am very happy for you because there is nothing better than a good day on the firing line.
It was pretty fantastic, it's a great gun when it works. The grip and the weight of the gun allows for good control, plus the 20+1 capacity gives you plenty to fire. I have to admit that after the 3rd shot jammed I was a little nervous but I didn't have a single jam after that. The hex dragon optic is pretty awesome as well. It may be temperamental but when it works it's great.

Glad it’s working for you!
