This is for lever gunners

I believe Henry (please correct me if I'm wrong) had the massive loop in their day and as I understand it trappers loved it because they could operate the gun with a thicker glove during the cold months. A lighter trigger pull usually helps improve accuracy. Better quality sights are another. I'll post an article here about rifle accuracy in general and hopefully you can glean something from it. It is fairly technical but I think rifle shooters of all platforms will appreciate it. Just an FYI, it is NOT my work but a great resource

There is the huge ring loop like John Wayne used in True Grit, then there is the larger than normal style made by Wild West, and I see used stock on some Marlins.

All have a hammer( half cock) safety like a 1911. Including my Marlin and every Marlin or 1894 I have ever seen. I've never seen a lever action rifle with a safety on the lever.

I'm still perplexed why someone would suggest leaving the action open.
 
That is the lever loop safety mechanism. If the loop isn't fully closed the trigger is safety blocked.

Ah. Yeah, they all have those. Never knew it was a safety. I guess I never tried to fire one with the action open. Although rather than the 2 day beating around the bush you could have just pointed it out to begin with.

Although I still fail to see why you would need to have 2 safeties engaged on a loaded gun in the safe, but then mine aren't loaded either.

You could have just said " There is a safety button under the lever and the gun won't fire with the action open".

Which still doesn't make any sense to me because unless I am very wrong, the action can't be open with a round in the chamber, no ? Or is the action supposed to be just a little bit open? Is there something inherently unsafe about one in the chamber and the hammer safety engaged?

I suppose I have never given any serious thought to using any of them for SD/HD.

I can slide the bolt back while 1 is in the chamber, but only if the hammer is back and the lever isn't fully closed. With the lever just before it's latched still is in safe with bolt closed. As far as bolt open there are degrees of "open".

I still contend it is pointless to leave the action open in the safe. It's like carrying a pistol with an empty chamber and the thumb safety on.
 
Well I've done some changes/upgrades/improvements. Replaced the floppy factory trigger (5.5# pull) with a RPP trigger (2.5# average). Next changed the lever screw and the buttstock screw also for a no tool removal. Added leather (sling, buttstock cover/spare ammo and loop covering). Fore cover/handguard. Last I changed the loadgate for an easier/softer load. Leather from D4 Guns and Original Power. The rest from Ranger Point Precision (RPP).
