What are you doing right now??

Back machining the big ball race for a steel mill. Had to get a new forging as the first one was cracked. Customer scrapped it.

Taking my truck in for some service. I have found an independent diesel shop started by a couple guys who became disgusted working for a dealership. At 214k miles my 2013 Superduty is going to need some costly work in the future, we shall see. I would like to get at least another 100k out of this truck.
To me as an overall thing, dealerships are only good/useful for warranty/recalls and a little of the "free oil change" thing. The pricing is always the highest and the work being done will be done by the lowest paid "mechanic" they have that day. Ok big box type "shops" do this kind of thing. Yes there are some "trainees" and all that but i know i don't want the tire plugger changing the ball joints of my vehicle.

And 214k on a diesel is more like it only just got past the "break-in" mileage... hahaha... Most diesel-customers i/stores had/have were over 300k a few over 500k miles...

Best of luck for "cheaper" fixes and that 100k more miles you want. But put that D word in a shop's name and the parts, cheap isn't a thing that can happen "easily".

Right now i'm back in TAL "catching up" on threads because the sleep ain't happening. I have a "day" of "yard work" i will try to do tomorrow if the weather and temp is good like today was when i started the work. And my body/brain doesn't "act up" too much if i get to sleep.

A "younger" me would easily not need to sleep and been doing whatever we wanted to, at any-time of the day/night. I used to stay up for 2-3 days at a time, only needing a couple of hours between the no-sleep days... sugar was/is my addiction and the fact that i don't have the 'betes is kind of a surprise, the dad's side of the family is pretty much "filled" with the types of 'betes there are.

Pain is the root of my insomnia... When it chooses to let up, I jump in the sack.

waiting on an email to get a RMA to return my security camera NVR. we had a weird power spike yesterday when the tree across the street did the dance of death on the lines, yellow surges, bright surges, darkness then surges again
everything in house is on surge protection, including the mains
the NVR stopped booting up, just freezes, so after hour of tech support on the phone, they decided its toast..
the other items on same surge and battery back up are not damaged.
but this nvr does not like being TURNED off by the power going away, it likes to be told to shut down first
my guess is it tried to save data and got the bits corrupted.
good thing its warranty as its a pricey little dude
electric company came out in the RAIN, wind and bright flashes across the sky and got the tree off the lines and power restored in about 1.5 hrs..
then showed up at 8 am to remove the rest of the tree.
sort of bugs me as this system runs my super duper high definition cameras that are so fast they track fast moving bugs and single rain drops as streaks looking like comets
so until it get repaired we are back on the old ones that just make you feel like you are driving a pedal scooter

Woke up with a scratchy throat...either I snored last night or it's a cold/allergies. Farmers are out stirring stuff up now and they're burning where they can. Tis the season, I suppose.

Anyway, I actually was able to stay awake for Gutfeld! last night, but not much longer. This past week at work was a killer and I hurt today, but I'm going to the range anyway, taking my Reflex and my VP9SK as they haven't been out for a while and they are both carry guns. Not going to hang around Fargo long though, got lots to do at the homestead.

So I'll get past one more cup of coffee and then MOVE .
