When it comes down to it, what is your "go to" EDC?

The big blue cities are kind of understandable if you think about the personalities of people who are attracted to big city life as opposed to those of us who prefer more rural settings closer to nature. Also, immigrants are likely to be attracted to the jobs available in big cities, and (I think) just don’t understand what freedom really is and the true cost of it.

I have carried a Ruger SP101 as my EDC for many years, but of late, I am thinking of going to a semi auto for various reasons. Although I love the SP 101, in this day and age, combined with my getting older and other factors, there may be better choices for EDC. I know alot of guys that carry micro, compact, medium and large frame semi autos as their EDC. I have been fortunate enough to try many of them at the range and have asked everyone the same question....Why is this your EDC? It's obvious that there is no one "best" EDC, it depends on the person and many other factors....

I am pretty sure alot of us have experimented with EDC pistols, trying to find "the one" that is perfect for you and your situation. I know I have shot over 15 different semi autos in the last 2 months or so and have narrowed the field to a handful. I will be making my final decision soon after a bit more shooting and research....I am not one to switch between multiple handguns for seasons, area to be visited and such, so I need to consider several factors in my final decision...

Just curious, what is your "go to" EDC? Even if you have cycled through multiple choices, what one EDC do you always return to and why? Thanks for any input...
I carry my Springfield XDS .45 religiously. One 5 round mag in weapon, and a spare 7 round mag. I have a XDS in 9mm as a spare. For many years I carried a S&W Model 60 with 125 grain Remington JHP.

Browning HiPower

I finally got one in 1997. Although a .45 ACP fan, the HiPower was easy to shoot, but especially nice to carry. The shape and contours caused it to blend in like nothing else when carried IWB.

Since then, I’ve switched back to the 1911 at times, but always gone back to the HiPower. I also spent a little over a year carrying only revolvers as an experiment, but when that ended I went right back to a HiPower.

Sadly, vision forced me to a red dot sight at the end of 2021, which pushed me out of HiPowers.
It was a sad day.

But the HiPower returned. I recently had an SA-35 milled for a red dot, and have returned to carrying a HiPower.

These days, more recently my grab and run (snag and stumbleo_O) guns are/would be a Glock 9mm-19 gen 5, or a Glock .40- 23 gen 4 or a S&W Model 28-2 .357. Rifles- AK (Early Mitchell Arms Yugo or MAK90 restocked) or AR15/M4. Bed-side- older Smith pre-model 10 .38special and retired 12 ga Mossberg 500 police shotgun (both very handy if aroused from sleep unceremoniously)😴.

Who did the millwork on your SA-35? I am not planning to do this yet, to mine. However, I do like dots and having just been introduced to them. I'm a fan.

Also, were you able to keep the factory sights?

A local guy did the machining. He does this as a side thing, and I’m not sure he’s willing to take on more work. I’ll check.

I told him not to worry about keeping the rear sight. I had a replacement rear that screws inside the RMR body. Plus, he had never done a HiPower before, so I wanted him to have plenty of leeway on where to cut.

I know some frown on "rotating guns," but I didn't buy small buy carry sized guns designed for EDC just to keep them sitting at home. I feel that I can hold my own with each of them.
  • Hellcat micro w/o reload = Pocket Carry or Deep Concealment.
  • Kahr K40 and Shield 45 Performance w/ two 7 round reloads = Both conceal and fit my hand well (K40 a little better), I shoot both well, they have the same capacity, so I rotate between both.
  • 2.5" S&W 686+ w/ 7 round speed loader = Because I love revolvers and don't feel at a disadvantage at all with 7 + 7 rounds 357.
  • Beretta APX Compact w/ 21 round reload = Increased risk and/or highly populated go to. I just feel most confident shooting this gun, most confident in working on, and I spent well over $1k in multiples of spare and replacement parts of every spring, firing pins, triggers, extractors, you name it... I want to keep it running even if Beretta discontinue and no longer offers a warranty on it. It's my SHTF gun that I have 3 of.
I've been coming back to over the years has been a Kahr. One point it was a K9 for a couple of years, and then the K40 on and off on and off. I keep coming back to it. The K40 is actually smaller than the K9 FYI.
I don't understand why you would waste money buying essentially the same thing over and over and over again.
