would you buy a new but blemished gun...??

would you buy a new revolver that was blemished?

  • yes but i'll keep it for life, and use it for the range or hunting only

  • no, it'll only be an investment that i'll want full value for later

  • depends on how much of a blemish it is

  • no, it's a waste of my time and money

I went with “depends…”.

Yes, what/how big the blem was would matter, but also how much it was discounted would matter, too.

I’ve bought several blem uppers from PSA over the years, and most of them you couldn’t tell what the problem was. The few you could were so minor (usually a minor finish scratch or similar) as to be inconsequential…and for the usual savings over the “pristine” version, very much worth it.

Like a vehicle your "resale" value is affected as soon as you walk out of the door.
My unfire XDm Elite optics ready .45compact which is unfired NIB with 5 mags, the trade in value many gun shops would give in trade for another firearm was LAUGHABLE.... I still have it NIB.

I do not buy guns for their resale value.
I completely agree with Hans, the time I did buy one no one else could tell it was. The cost to me to buy was way worth it to me.

The poll didn't have the answer I would make which is....

Yes, for a significant discount.

And I have bought "blemished" guns/parts/components/ammo at a discount & have a hard time finding the blemish.

Plus, the first time you use an un-blem it's now a "blem".

ok, i thought about asking that question, due to what i read online.

i have only bought 1 used revolver, that Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt LC.

it has a few light rub (or scratch marks), otherwise the gun is a good looking as can be (in my eyes)

so being used, i cannot expect near perfection

and of course, being used, i certainly did not pay MSRP.

however for a brand new polished revolver, i'd want it as perfect as possible, for what i'd be paying.

i don't throw my guns down onto the shooting bench, i place them down. (all my guns, not just my revolvers)

resale means something to me, if i am out laying that sorta cash, for a pretty gun.

and that goes from my Ruger GP 100 2.5" at about $700 new, up to my $5,000 Korth 6"

will i ever get close to what i paid for any of my revolvers..??

realistically i think NO, only as much as an offer will be made.

but then, they will all have been sold as used.......not new in box, with blemishes.

thanks for responding..!!

I more then likely would, if the blemish wasn’t to bad or very noticeable, I have bought a refurbished revolver, my S&W 610 was a T&E gun, sent back to factory and then sold as refurbished, got full warranty and an email from S&W stating it was actually a T&E gun, but wouldn’t say by who, including documents stating I get full factory warranty just as if it was brand new.

T&E...???????

If I was getting a new Python or a something along those lines, that rascal had better be 100% perfect. That said, I'm always looking to save a buck. As others have mentioned, they treat theirs gingerly. I, on the other hand, am kinda savage. I take care of my stuff, but don't handle as fragile. Everything I own has a dent, ding or scratch somewhere. But that was before the " boating accident "

I'll go with depends on the blemish and the discount.
I shoot all my guns. Ain't no safe queens here. I do take good care of my guns, but a few marks here and there are inevitable. They give the gun "character". ;) Heck, I've bought guns with so much "character" its hard to tell what they are.
