would you buy a new revolver that was blemished?

  • yes but i'll keep it for life, and use it for the range or hunting only

  • no, it'll only be an investment that i'll want full value for later

  • depends on how much of a blemish it is

  • no, it's a waste of my time and money

what did all the manufacturers use to call these in the past, before switching to the name SUV..???

after my nap, if no one recalls, i will answer.

I had a ‘78 Bronco….deemed a Utility on the title, maybe a VIN code classification?

Nasty crooked City of Chicago & IL charge extra license fees for these SUV’s now.

When I had one, I’d always put a car plate on it and had dealer classify it a Passenger Vehicle on the title transfer paperwork worked for a while until city/state started decoding VIN numbers.
Used to also get away with this with 3/4 ton pickup.

well, partially true...regarding the "utility"

but before they all became SUV's (Sport Utility Vehicle), they were known as ATV's....

All Terrain Vehicle

there was a movie, (1989) in fact it was "uncle Buck", his nemesis, named Pal, tried to "pick up" Bucks neice, and he asked her if she wanted to go for a ride in his brand new ATV.

well, back then (1988), Honda came out with that 3 wheeled ATV, so the automakers changed over the name to SUV, to not get people confused with the 3 wheelers.

ATC's or also ATV's had been out maybe a decade earlier.

but Honda set the pace big time, then others followed.

see, and y'all thought we only learnt about guns here.

Nothing wrong with Ford trucks made before 1998. I had a lot of great ones. I had a '68 with a 490 in it. That was an amazing truck. I had a pair of '88s. An F150 with a Boss 302 and an F250 with a 7.3L non turbo International. I had a '92 with a 302. I had a 96 with a straight six. I had a '97 F350 with a 7.3L Powerstroke. I'm sure I am missing a few.

A smarter fella woulda learned after they introduced TFIC IV. But we'll give bonus points for the crapistar powered F350. Those 7.3 turbos were something else as long as the FICM held up.

I have no idea what your acronyms mean, but I will say this. I never had major problems with any of the trucks I listed. My 7.3 Powerstroke had a half million problem free miles on it when I smashed it. I rolled the truck 3 times. The cab, the hood and the industrial ladder racks on the 8' bed were all the same level when I was done. They pulled me out of the passenger floorboard. If I had been wearing a seatbelt I would be dead. On the way up and out the driver side window I had to reach down and shut the motor off. It was still purring like a kitten.

Both my Bronco and my suburban were listed as "carryall" that entitled me to be able to drive LSD and Boulevards, just like utility. But man, if you got caught with a B plate or better, they act like the world is coming to an end.

TFIC IV = thick film integrated circuit series 4. The 70s version of an integrated circuit. Prone to moisture problems
FICM = fuel injection command module. The high voltage box that controlled the injectors. 6 liters had the worst.
I used to work for International dealers in the 90s. The 7.3s were remarkable engines. And yes the 490 gasser was a beast. Believe it or not, Ford used a lot of gas engines back in the 70s & 80s. The 330, 360 and 390 industrial were very strong but had an appetite for fuel. Then they introduced the 370 Lima another good engine if you could keep the intake sealed.
Sorry, got sidetracked, but the discussion triggered cool bits of trivia in my ol noggin.
