TFIC IV = thick film integrated circuit series 4. The 70s version of an integrated circuit. Prone to moisture problems
FICM = fuel injection command module. The high voltage box that controlled the injectors. 6 liters had the worst.
I used to work for International dealers in the 90s. The 7.3s were remarkable engines. And yes the 490 gasser was a beast. Believe it or not, Ford used a lot of gas engines back in the 70s & 80s. The 330, 360 and 390 industrial were very strong but had an appetite for fuel. Then they introduced the 370 Lima another good engine if you could keep the intake sealed.
Sorry, got sidetracked, but the discussion triggered cool bits of trivia in my ol noggin.
I had a 390 in one too. All these trucks loved fuel. Not the 302s all that much I guess, but those straight sixes ate as much fuel as the 302s. The 390s and 490s, fuggetaboudit. When I bought my first 490 my cousin told me the same thing he told me when I bought my '69 Coupe Deville Ragtop with the 500 from him. I asked him what kind of gas mileage, he said " Don't worry about the gas mileage." I also bought a 71 hardtop Coupe with a 500 from him. And a 1967 Sedan Deville with a 427. I loved those Cadillacs and miss them all very much.

He absolutely meant that. He told me not to worry about smoking the glass so the homeys wouldn't see the Alpine system in it. He said they'll just steal the whole car. He was right.

That Alpine system was the :poop: though. I had 3 Alpine amps and a pair of 12" rear firing subs in the extraordinarily large trunk, Blaupunkt 6x9s in the rear window, Blaupunkt 5" round speakers in all 4 doors and JVC hard domed super tweeters hidden in the front air vents. Alpine cassette deck with a built in crossover. Man that car was soooooooo F'ing bad ass.

Now that reminds me of how my hearing began to fail. I had a dinky little chevy lumina. There was no trunk space left. It had a sealed 4 chamber box with 4 15" Rockford Fosgate Pro series driven by 2 Hyfonics Zeus amps at 2 ohms. Rear deck and doors were Pyle 6x9 and 6" round driven by a Hyfonics Athena . Rounding out the roofline had 8 boston acoustics 1" tweeters and 2 infinity 2x3 in the front dash . It had an Alpine head unit with a 6 disc changer in the glove box. I had 2 lighting caps feeding each amp. Otherwise the lights would go out when the bass hits.I literally blew the trunk lid sheet metal apart. Had to weld the latch structure together several times. Lots of Coal chamber, white zombie, primus, ministry & Garbage for a wild mix. I miss that almost as much as I miss my hearing.

Indeed. And Primussucks. ;) I've seen them about 15 times.

There was a 470 for a while during late 80s into the 90s. Hard to find parts for. Offered in 250, 350 and super duties. Straight up low rpm torque monster.
I think the '68 ( my first truck actually. Which my dad took me to buy) had a 460 in it. Pretty sure I was confusing the 390 and the 460.

I thought it was strange my 67' Sedan Deville had a 427 in it. But it did. The 500s were stock in the Coupes, but they are essentially 492s with different heads. Parts are unobtanium. My cousin has a knack for finding them though. And cheap. He's always owned body shops and garages. In fact he texted me yesterday and he just bought a storage unit which contained an entire 1970 Mach 1 fastback with a 700 hp Cleveland, complete with all the badges and interior. I mean the whole enchilada. For $1200.

That '67 Sedan he sold me, he bought it for $600. Old lady's husband died 6 years prior and it sat in her garage. He put a battery in it and drove it home.

I'll tell you one thing about those 500s. They weren't fast off the line, but if we were on the highway doing 65 mph and someone decided they wanted to race they better have a nice big block because that F'er would go from 55 to 140 in a heartbeat. And smooth as silk. What a ride. Dual climate control, seats 6 or 7 comfortably and at least 7 bodies could fit in the trunk. The '71 Coupe was 22 feet long with big ol' fins and double pie plate headlights. Just a beautiful piece of machinery.

I was never a fan of Caddies. They were big n beautiful but too "out there " for me. I was happier in an ol dart or a monte carlo. Always liked little and nimble vs hulky. Besides the 340 was a big block killer. A high winding race engine for production. Just not for towing.
Man this sideroad just keeps making turns.

I picked up this DW a while back - it had some rub marks on the L. side of the trigger. I didn't hesitate.
