Would you carry a 22 mag

In a lightweight snubbie with 8-rd capacity and a load that is optimized for short barrels, I would.
This is 7 rounds, weighs 10.5oz…

I used it to requalify for my carry permit, shot 100%.

Loaded with Hornady Crit Defense 40gr; I’ll also go for Winchester PDX or Gold Dots.

S&W 351C. If you prefer a hammer, the 351PD is a pretty sweet little piece as well.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward the PD but haven't made up my mind yet.

Btw, for those who are interested in .22 WMR ballistics, Lucky Gunner test results:

I think as we get older (I turned 65 in July) and survive surgeries (Neck Micro Fracture and Quadruple Bypass) and we like to carry a concealed handgun, it's wise to find firearms that we are comfortable carrying AND can shoot accurately.

A 22 magnum firearm on the hip is much better than the 45 acp you left in the car or at home.

I went from carrying a 1911 full size or Commander to a Glock 19 Gen 5 or a S&W 638 J Frame. My Glock 19 has a pull ring installed that makes racking the slide so much easier than trying to rack the slide the normal way. I'm always on the look out for products that make concealed carry easier.

Someday I might only be able to handle a 22 magnum and hopefully my ego will not get in the way of my personal safety or the safety of loved ones.

Sometimes it seems that the people who are quick to criticize are the ones who are not older or have experienced serious injuries or surgeries. I try to stay humble so I don't get humbled...:)

Thanks for posting the article on the 22 magnum...:)

Little recoil, loud, lots of muzzle flash; if you're a good shot your assailant will never know what caliber you used to neutralize the threat. Then there's that rhetorical question that always comes to mind in this type of discussion: What caliber would any intelligent person really want to be shot with?

The rounds designed for short barrels (CritDef, PDX, Gold Dot) are pretty low flash…it’s definitely a lot more than, say, .22LR out of my S&W 43C, but it’s not a fireball like you’ll get out of rifle-designed WMR ammo (Maxi-Mag, etc).

And…there’s a critical flaw to your question—and that is, an intelligent person is likely NOT going to be in the situation where they’re going to get shot…it’s those folks who don’t GAF that are the problem.

That being said, though…the odds are stacked against you ever needing to use a firearm in defense. If you ever do, it’s a lot more likely that simply producing the firearm ends the problem with no shots fired. Should shots be fired—not even hits, mind you—will usually end the issue…but even then, 2-3 hits regardless of caliber, bullet type, etc—is a fight stopper in the vast majority of cases…

Yea, I know I just argued both sides of the issue, because both sides are equally valid, and have their strong points and weaknesses.

So, you pays your money and takes your chances.
