Is Constitutional Carry a Mistake?

It's been approximately six months since we've had this discussion my opinion on mandatory training hasn't changed and I still think Cops are civilians.

I've given this topic some thought in the last 6 months and here's what I think.

Research indicates the human brain, specifically the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that processes rational thought, doesn't fully develop until approximately 25 years of age.

I think we should have phased majority. Not until 25 but from 18 to 21.

At 18 you can join the military (or the Air Force). If you're in the military you can vote. If if you're not in the military you can't vote or be drafted.

I checked and on average you must be 21 years old to be a police officer in the United States. You can go to the Police Academy at 18 but you have to be 21 to be hired.

So at 21 you get full majority You can vote. You can sign a contract. You can be drafted. You can buy a gun and carry as you see fit. You can buy alcohol.

I think this would change our country for the better.

Okay, but the age of consent is 21. Want to change your sex, 21. Take "hormone therapy", 21. Be charged as an adult, 21. Have a driver's license (cars being potentially more dangerous than guns), 21. Buy booze, tobacco, POT, 21 etc. etc. etc.
Research indicates... sorry don't trust them. The research indicates what they want it to, no matter how they have to fudge the numbers. Science isn't cowpies, but scientist/researchers sure do shovel a lot of it.
There is no magic number. I know more than a few 50-year-olds that are not as mature/adult as some 15YO that I know.
I do agree though. You are a legal adult at 18 or 21 stop the sliding scale B.S. Legal being the key word not adult in fact.

Remember long ago when they decided that the age of majority was 18, so you could enlist, vote and buy booze. The last didn’t last long, and I wish the middle privilege had gone as well. I remember, kinda, being 18 and realize my thought processes were not adequate for something as important as voting!

Constitutional carry should be the law; issuance of a (non-required) permit should follow a training session, which would make interstate reciprocity while traveling possible.🤠
I would further add that Constitutional carry should include bowie and other knives on the person, concealed or open. If a concealed firearm is legal, why not my bowie or kukri?

Personally it should be a persons choice. I’m in a controlling state surrounded by free states. I do promote getting educated before opening a person’s mouth (like bitching about who is running the country but didn’t vote).

As a retired police officer and range officer I qualify every year to maintain my LEOSA status. That is 50 state carry. I have gone to CCW classes years ago and found some of the most dangerous idiots I have ever seen playing with guns. A CCW class can't solve stupid.
I’ve encountered a few people that like that here in Illinois

How about extended to include flying commercial airlines in the CONUS?

In one training class I attended which was hosted by three local LEO SWAT personnel, a clown showed up in a black trench coat (in the AZ summer) which was odd enough. But he wanted a CCW to carry a black powder revolver.

There were no prohibitions of black powder guns, but qualifying and carrying one shouldn't have to be written down. You know, common sense and all that! The RO's said let's see how this works for him and put him at the very end of the line by himself. In that one string of fire the clown demonstrated his lack of knowledge, lack of proficiency and total disregard for firearms safety. He got tossed.

Same class a man and wife showed up with tricked out his/hers matching Glock pistols. He was on the right end of the line, she standing to my right in the middle of the line. Twice she pointed her Glock in my direction and everyone to the left of me, each time with her finger on the trigger. I told the RO what she was doing and I was moving to the right end of the line next to her husband. She got tossed.

The RO's said they had heard of a Tucson applicant who was legally blind who applied for a CCW. He was a lawyer apparently trying to prove something as there was no prohibition for the blind. Not certain what happened in that instance.

And there is an equal or larger body of stories of LE Ofc showing up at general public shooting matches , and being embarrassingly inept , and all the onlookers quietly shaking their heads in amazement .

Not trying to throw shade in either direction. It's the outliers of anything, that make for the coolest stories .

Just like there are equal number of accounts by LGS about idiot customers , as of accounts by customers about idiot LGS staff .

unless they might be a school resource officer, then that is exactly what many of them do...pensions you know.

Legally , LE only has obligations to protect people in custody , and people in an explicit Witness Protection program .

[ Yes , the majority of LEO feel a higher , personal sense of Moral Obligation to Protect , and that's a significant factor in having a calling to the profession .]

While I agree with this premise, I would argue that LGS staff should be relatively experienced to even be hired and that it is the LGS’ staff responsibility to educate their customers, especially the ones they think are “idiots”, since many of those customers have probably never handled a gun and are looking for guidance.

Your outlier argument could apply to potential “idiot” customers. No excuse for idiot (or rude, or arrogant) LGS staff.

Dang ! You gave me a fun challenge right there ! To shoot a perfect score on my State's Carry Permit Qual COF with Cap & Ball . Almost too easy , all head shots would make it sporting .

***********************

But semi seriously, Dude should have borrowed an SAA clone or Blackhawk to do the Qual . The skills would have closely carried between those and his Colt Navy , or Old Army .

But post Bruen , our 2A Legal Brain Trust dug into this . The conclusion was that one could NOT Qualify with a C&B .

As written , the Qualification Guidelines contain the word * Firearm * instead of merely Pistol or Revolver . Under State Law , C&B is defined generally as Not a Firearm [ But still a " Dangerous Weapon " . ] (But the are included in the specific language of the Statute about " Use of a Firearm, in the Commision of Crime of Violence " , which includes a Manditory 5 years . )

Hey now ! Plenty of Legally Blind people have Drivers Licenses , and drive cars .

Legally Blind is defined by one's UN Corrected Vision . They may well have 20/ 200 Un corrected , and 20 / 20 Corrected ( plus also some fine print about degrees of peripheral vision .)

I'll take your word as to your self awareness at the time .

When I had turned 18 , I had been following politics , and the events and issues of the day for several years , engaged in political discourse with peers and adults , etc .

I couldn't wait to vote , and ever since have only missed one Primary ( no contested races within my Registered Party of the Time ) and one Special Election ( required by State Law to be member of same Party , as was the Former holder , for whom they would finish the Term. And All the candidates were insane Democrats .)

Should is a Big Word .

Head shots here in NV while qualifying for a CCW will get you a fail ..... Only COM shots allowed.

I was told once to open up my group to help them bleed out faster

I have CCWs and / or CCLs (nomenclature applicable to your state) in multiple states. My issue is that my home state doesn't (yet) have any magazine capacity restrictions whereas neighboring states do. My EDC also isn't on the California "approved" list. I know one of these days I'm going to end up in hot water in a foreign state because I'm not in compliance with the state law(s).

There shouldn't be a paper trail at all. This is America man. You are literally sitting here advocating restrictions and conditions for a constitutional right enshrined in the BOR. Any others you think need tweaking ? Regardless of what you think it really isn't a living breathing document. It means what it says, period.

A) The 1st amendment kills way more people than the 2nd.

B) If they can violate the 2nd amendment, they can violate any and all of them.
I'm with you Bassbob. I really believe the 1st and 2nd amendments weren't randomly selected to occupy those spots. I believe they were carefully placed in the number 1 and 2 spots purposefully as a matter of importance.
