BassCliff deciding on his 1st AR-15, HELP!

I'm not a AR guy. I own two of them, just because. But the darn things are everywhere. Tons of used ones out there. Find a nice used one that you like and is in your budget and go from there. ;)

    S&W1917

From the pics it appears to be the standard U.S. model. So it always was a .45acp.

    S&W1917

I already answered in the other thread. Where are you getting this "down necked" thing from? What does that even mean? The .455 bullet is only .002" bigger than the .45acp. Both work fine in the same barrels. S&W made guns for the U.S. chambered in .45acp. The guns made for the British were...

    A unique revolver

The S&W Model 1917 was a stop gap during WW I. There just weren't enough 1911 pistols to go around yet. They were chambered for the .45acp cartridge and used moon clips as the rimless round had nothing for the ejector to grab on to. S&W also made these in .455 for the British. After the war...

    Winter gear question?

I'm a Carhartt guy myself. Spent many, many very cold days working outside. These work. (y)

    lever fun!

I do love me some levers. The original assault rifle. ;) I have them ranging from .22 up to .45-70. But these new "tactical" lever guns just look dumb to me. Maybe I'm just too much of a traditionalist.

    Wow, really?

Without going into details, I started drinking at age 14. Young, stupid and alcohol don't mix well.

California Raising Background Check Fee's 500%, Get Ready

I should clarify. Tennessee doesn't actually use the FBI NICS system. We have our own instant background check system run by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. They charge $10 per check. NICS has become the common term for background checks everywhere so I inadvertently used it. :rolleyes...

California Raising Background Check Fee's 500%, Get Ready

Is this just for ammo or is that $5 background check fee the same for buying guns? Here in Tennessee there is no check for ammo, but the NICS check on a firearm is $10.

Sikorsky H-5: One Seriously Ugly Helicopter

Way back in my Army days I had a CO for a while who had been a helicopter pilot. He got shot down in Viet Nam, but was only mildly injured. But the Army said it was enough and wouldn't let him fly anymore. That's how he ended up with us. He told a story one time about how, when in...

Push vs Twist Revolver Speed Loaders: Is One Design Better?

Back in my IDPA days, I would sometimes shoot matches with a revolver. I've used both types. The HKS is smoother to put in the gun and drop right in. The Safarilands are just a hair quicker. But, the push to release requires a firm push. I have tried to reload and then realized that I hadn't...

Not a good look for VP pick

Ah yes, the old "common sense" gun laws argument. There was a time not that long ago when many gun owners tried to accept laws to keep guns out of the hands of "bad" people. However, the antis took those same "common sense" laws and used them against ordinary, law abiding gun owners. The goal...

    TFB Comparison: High/Hi-Power Face-Off

FN don't make no junk. As such, I'm sure this new High Power is a fine pistol. But it ain't a Hi-Power! Frankly, it pisses me off that FN would try to blatantly fool customers with a trick name. 🤬

    Sig p238

The P238 is a copy of the Colt Mustang. A gun I'm very fond of and carry from time to time. I own two of them. An original 1st issue all steel Mustang and a later Mustang XSP which uses a poly frame. It uses a locked breach design which lessens recoil quite a bit over blowback 380s. This makes...

ford to make hybrid suv's rather than all electric

Since when has the climate not changed? Its the natural order of things. Humans may have contributed to climate change, but we didn't cause it and we sure as Hell can't stop it. We have to either adapt or die. Most people have the completely wrong attitude towards the Earth. This is NOT our...

you ain't gonna believe this......dreams do come true

Give them a good coating of oil. Put in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour. Wipe clean. The seasoning will get better with use. NEVER wash them with detergent. That removes the seasoning. Just wipe with a dry towel after use. If stubborn food just won't come out, fill with water, put...

    Facing the Active Killer

I'm no cop and have no type of Police training. I'm just a average guy who carries a gun and is reasonably proficient with it. I honestly don't know how I would react in an active shooter situation. But my thinking has always been that if I can at least make the shooter duck and focus on me, he...

Using the loans program to enrich oneself -he asks is it immoral

He's gaming the system. Its morally wrong and should be illegal. But it is legal. While I don't agree with what he's doing, I can't blame him. Blame the politicians. They did this. Its there for the taking and he needs the money. So why not?

ford to make hybrid suv's rather than all electric

Ford is currently building a huge new factory not far from Memphis. They call it Blue Oval City because it will employ basically a small city full of workers. Its purpose is to build electric pick-ups. I don't think that's gonna happen. I believe that before its finished it will be converted to...
