both. Because we can. I'll stick with my high performers like buffalo bore, underwood etc for the ammo. .45 +P acp or high end 10mm.

Forget watermelon ballistics test and worry about hitting your target, preferably under various circumstances (distances 3-20ft, low light, one handed, turning…).

The same for me. While I have no doubt that a 10 mm is a fine caliber choice, I just don't need to add another caliber to my already large selection of firearms of different calibers. I probably have 5000 rounds of .45 for my 3 .45's. And now my EDC is a H&K VP9SK, so I'm not going thru so much .45 these days. But I am seriously considering a Ruger LC Carbine in a .45 to burn up some of my .45 stockpile. Just have to wait until after the holidays. Already spent way more than I should have for the holidays.

When I was in Montana for 4.5 months this year my EDC was my 10MM XDM Elite because I was in Bear Country.
Never saw a Bear however there were sightings in the campground.
Now I’m in Texas and carrying my 45ACP XDM Elite.

I like the idea of 10mm; particularly using a commercial load that’s just a little warmer than a .40 S&W…the 200gr HST load being an excellent example.

Put it in a large, full-frame pistol and it’s going to be very controllable, fairly mild recoil, with higher capacity than a .45.

That being said, though…if you already have a .45, I really don’t see a reason to go to 10. It’s not going to do anything better than .45 as far as getting a stop, given equal placement.

This is some serious firepower; the Danish Marines, Long Range Patrol members carry 10mm pistols for the specific purpose of protection against polar bears. I still like to shoot .45 ACP 1911's and would not hesitate to carry one, but can it compare to 17 rounds of 10mm; not really.

No, they carry M1917 rifles in .30-06 for polar bear protection; the G20’s the carry are purely for backup in a worst-case scenario.

Obviously, against a large predator, you would use a rifle anytime possible rather than a pistol, but my point was that the handgun they carry for such a situation is 10mm. It is one of the few pistol cartridges I would trust against a bear of any variety. Well, except for cuddly Bruce here.

From what I have read they like it because it performs so well in arctic conditions and the 30/06 is, well it's the .30/06 lol.
