I don't recall using a mat. But we did touch the rafters and some of us could do it without our legs.

Yep. Wolf eels come to mind. We used to dive off the shore of Vancouver Island. There were quite a few things down there that would bite you. I haven’t been diving since the 90s also. Never ran into a moose though…

SSI. My sons and I dove in the Gulf nearly every weekend for several years. The oldest boy went in the service and the youngest lost interest so I sold the boat and gave it up. I was 50 so it was time to quit anyway. It was a great experience.
interesting, did get attacked by an eel during my SAR cert class. Yes lots of bite you things underneath
