Glock 19 Killers: Best Compact Pistols That Aren’t a Glock

I'm not a gun guy. I'm not a collector, I'm not an accumulator and I'm really not looking for the next new best thing.

There was a time in my life when I thought the Third Generation Smith and Wesson was the Apex of handgun technology. To make a long story short I got a chance to do some training and I began to see some flaws in the design. The biggest being the manual safety.

I sold off all but one of my third generation Smith & Wesson and I bought an M&P 9. Compatibility between handguns is a major requirement for me. I bought an M&P9C (first generation, the one they call the subcompact now) but I never really liked the way it fit my hand.

Well I was doing my research on the M&P a really couldn't get around the fact that the Glock 19 filled both niches. So I sold the 9C and I bought one. A year later I bought a Glock26 and it turned out to be everything that I wanted thr 9C to be.

I said all that to say that those two handguns meet all the requirements that I have for a handgun. So I quit looking for the next great thing.
I am in a similar boat, Night Rider. I try to choose wisely, and be satisfied with my choice.

Yeah, obviously the Q5 Match is in a whole different league and price range, and designed to be a competition gun, but for a carry/duty pistol, the PDP is really good. I'd say it's really a toss-up between the VP9 and the PDP, depending on what features one cares about/doesn't care about. But in the $530 price range, I haven't handled anything else that comes close (and I've handled quite a few). If the price on the VP9s came down, it would really be a toss up. I'll take either one over a Glock any day.

I hear ya about not needing another 9mm - I was just telling myself that again last week. 🤣
I bought my VP9 right after the 2020 OR models came out. I specifically wanted a 2019 straight model. I got mine for under $600.

I am currently considering trading the Q5 off on something else. Or selling it outright. Shouldn't be too hard to sell. Low round count, like new condition with the Venom on it.

My year end bonus check was smaller than I hoped this year and it left me just short of what I needed for the shotgun I wanted. So now I am considering whether to wait and save up more cash for the shotgun or just blow a couple grand on a pistol or two and some new optics for some other long guns.

What about Shadow Systems Foundation Series? I was able to handle the product line at the Texas Gun Experience sales counter last week on Veterans Day and was impressed with the build quality. They feel great in the hand and totally different than a Glock to me. Note. I am not an expert on Glocks whatsoever.

They basically are gen3 Glocks.

Say it ain’t so………Glock killers….. seriously, good article and picks

Glock 19s are good firearms. I've owned a couple of them. They shot ok. I see a G19 as a good basic firearm. Nowadays there's so many good alternatives to a Glock 19.

If the Glock 19 fits your hand well and you can shoot it accurately more power to you. They never fit my hand as good as other firearms.

I owned a CZ-P07 Duty. It's a fantastic firearm, I just could never get a good grip on the slide.

The first time I picked up a Beretta APX(that sits next to me as I write this) it feels like it was made for "my" hand.

I would like to handle a Walther PDP. I owned a Walther PPQ. I liked the trigger but it didn't fit my hand. The Beretta APX fits my hand. The only way I'd switch from the APX to something different is if I can find something that fits my hand better.

I owned 1911s for many years(1980-2021). Most 1911s fit my hand pretty well. They just became too heavy for me to carry because of my neck issues(I have 12 screws in my neck from Neck Micro-fracture surgery).

I concur that Pew Pew reviews "seem to me" to be biased toward the manufacturer they're reviewing and not as honest as they'd be if they weren't getting paid by the manufacturer.

I have recommended Glock 19s to several people who wanted a simple, reliable, handgun. I used to allow friends to shoot my Glock 19s. Several of them were impressed enough to purchase one. I could never bond with a Glock 19 like I did with 1911s and how I have with the APX.
