i tried searching for a thread specific to target practice, but could not find one.??

anyway, i was supposed to go and buy some lumber today and start repairs on my porch decking.

but it started to rain, so i went to the range instead.

i took my CZ 75B, and 50 rnds, factory S&B FMJ 124 gr.

i did have one very bad low shot, which i point out with the arrow.....

Just my $0.02 worth, If you continue to practice at 7 yards your groups will not improve as much. Move the targets out to at least 50ft. If too close, you tend to focus on the target rather than on the front sight. With targets at distance they are blurry so you can concentrate on the more critical alignment. As you improve ask yourself which direction does the front sight move within the rear notch as you squeeze to break the shot. As you reset the trigger after the shot, which direction does the front sight move.

yes, very often, i will practice at say, 8, then 10 yards. but i am also practicing at or about the FBI stats, that "most attacks" happen "with-in" 20 feet of you. (about 7 yards)

i am practicing for that, not so much competition.

like the CCW permit shooting qualification test...we have to shoot at the target at 25 yards......that's 75 feet away.

if i got 75 feet, i got time to run, or in my case, hobble to safety

to me, shooting at 75 feet away amounts to a gun fight, i need not to get into.

Good shooting but can't just buy a gun made in Turkey. Glad you had fun with it!
i know, some have explained it had to do with Turkey's policies/politics....

all i know is, they are well built, to specs, and perform and are not as high priced as other major brands.

getting parts can be daunting, as was (and maybe still the case) with the Vanik brand.

i had 2 of them, and getting magazines, or slide release springs, was impossible, and after i got rid of the first one, you'd think i had learnt my lesson, but nope, the next Canik saw me walking into the LGS, and jumped into my hand.....it was an amazing trick..>!!

but, overall, any Turkish gun(s) from any maker in that country performed as expected, and never disappointed at the range.

went to the range earlier today, and took my Ruger Vaquero (45 Colt LC)

only 50 rounds of ammo as well

this time, 8 yards away, and 2 targets.

each target, i got 1 bullseye, the rest...meh.....at least i did hit the targets.

after that, went to the large LGS, and inquired about 45 Colt LC..

they "used" to have Remington, that i bought at like $50 per 50 rounds, and bought 3 boxes at that visit.

today, no Remington, but Fiocchi Cowboy @ $52 per box, they had another brand, Winchester i think, at a mere $65 per box, needless to say, i went "cheaper".

besides, i have really been satisfied with the Fiocchi brand.

i only have now, 100 polished 45 Colt LC's ready to be reloaded, but i really don't want to set up the Dillon, for only 100 rounds.

funny too (not ha-ha funny) but the mom/pop bait-gun store HAS reloaded 45 Colt LC, at a mere $50...

i just cannot justify getting reloaded for same pricing as new........then get $2.00 off another box at trade in, when i can use the 1st fired brass i buy at same pricings.

good thing too, i do not shoot that Vaquero all that much

today was Ruger SR 1911 day at the club, been a few months since it saw a range

the usual procedure,

25 feet away, max, per club rules

1 target, 50 rds of my reloaded ammo, 230 gr, lead, starting charge, 4.0

3 rds, just at the green/white line

i also use a larger cardboard backer, they only have a cardboard target holder, and i think that allows the targets to "wave" in the air..rather than to be rigid...???

took my S&W 686 + to the range earlier today,

50 rounds of 38 special

the 50 rds was reloaded from the mom/pop store, as i had 1 box left, and haven't made my own yet

this is that target, from 8 yards away, about 24 feet

(eventually, at the range, the targets will SLOWLY get further away)

Good shooting, always nice to wear out the center of a target
good thing i buy those targets (still for the time being), at one of my local wally-worlds..

20 for about $6.00

i tried reaching out to Birchwood Casey, (who makes these) for buying in bulk this very same target, they never got back to me.

might be a store specific target.

so i stock up at wally's place.

ok, took one of my CZ 75 B's (Omega) to the club for a work out. i took 50 rounds of MY reloaded 9mm, and 1 box of new S&B..

well, just like when i was buying reloaded ammo at the mom/pop store....

i can say that IT DOES NOT MATTER, who makes up the reloads

my CZ's WILL NOT SHOOT....reloads....PERIOD.

correct OAL, starting charge (as usual for still now), 124 lead round nose.

CZ absolutely will, not shoot reloaded ammo.

we always recommend to others that are new, that when thier gun has an issue, to try a different ammo, cuz why..??

some ammo's just do not shoot in some guns....

well.....anyhow, after shooting off all that reloaded, shooting the S&B was a pure joy.

i think that the CZ brand, is the only brand that gives me a tough time with reloads.

heck i had semi wadcutters that my 97B would not shoot, but ALL my other 45's, shoot them with ease..

we had a cat.....well over the years the family has had several cats......

and i thought THEY were finicky eaters........!!!!!

My first Colt Gold Cup from the 80’s would not shoot any of my loads using 200 swc hard cast under a charge of Bullseye, no matter the charge weight, it only shot factory 185 target and 230gr target, which you don’t shoot hardball in the older Gold Cups with the 2 piece spring loaded sear system, so I had to buy the expensive 185 target ammo
