Honda and Nissan consider merging into one company

so looking at this - I see that Honda gets more mid size SUVs and pickup trucks. Nissan staves off bankruptcy. Is it a good idea?

no..........no mergers are ever good....

to me, its always a sign that one company is failing and needs the life preserver.

case in point...

my BIL works at a machine shop here in RI..

they "merged" with Metal Form (yes the gun magazine company) a few years ago.

since then, many operations at the company have been moved to either CT, or MA.......HHMMmmmmm

now he tells me, they cannot keep up with Metal Form magazine orders..well jesus h. christ, the shop is like a ghost town now, he says...yet they are pushing for more production......like WTF, how can you get MORE production out of fewer workers..???

i predict a shutdown............

he has like 1 more year for partial retirement on SS........

merges are never a good idea...let alone a great one

My guess is that Honda will lower its’ standards to Nissans’ instead of the other way around. Anyone thinking of buying a Honda should probably do it before the merger (if there is one). Nissan has been in decline for a while, at least it appears that way to me.

The demand for Nissan worldwide is down, not necessarily USA.
There’s a reason for that! We’ve owned a few, but long ago. A 92 Nissan Stanza (GREAT car), a Nissan Frontier crew cab (forget the year, but traded it within a year anyway as it really really sucked), and a 2014 Nissan 370Z. Another awesome car, I just had to drive it 300 miles for a business trip while still working and never wanted to do that again 😂.

But that was 10 years ago and the last Nissan we owned. I think our Nissan dealer here has changed hands at least three times since then. Probably same QC issues as everyone else in this day and age, but I won’t own another. (Unless a 370Z produced in Japan and shipped over - and my days of driving a Z, let alone getting in and out of one, are WAY behind me! Mine WAS fun to drive though - 6 speed manual! …until roads got icy!

This pertains to all the auto manufacturing companies.
Get off your dead a$$es and make Quality things people want, why do foreign companies offer better warranties???
Ever since the late 70's no matter the company all cars look the same with very little change, such as Impala's, Taurus' Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks.
These companies want to add features to dumb down drivers with automatic braking, lane change warning and God forbid letting them drive Autonomously adding to ridiculous price increases.
I have had a company truck all my career and since I'm retired, I would like one, but not at $75,000.
Wake up American companies and build what we want and make it affordable, so I don't have to rely totally on foreign vehicles.
Enough said time for coffee...

Nissan has a lousy CVT transmission....unless a Honda CVT can be mated up with a Nissan engine, then Honda will have to put Honda drive trains into Nissans.

same with Mitsubishi dealers here.

a royal PITA car to work on, and the engines were lousy. i refused to work on ANY Mitsu, not even change out a tail light.

when a Mitsu dealer opens up here..??

in less than 5 years, they close down, then another, then another...

not a very popular car brand. and not really great gas mileages either.

same with me, i had like 3 pick up trucks, but my last one, a 2004 Ranger 2 wd was priced the same as the 2 chevy's i had back in the 1980's, as the full sized trucks back in '04 went over the $30,000 point.....

so i "settled" on the Ranger at $16,700 out the door.

Build the cars WE want ?

We are TOLD what we want.

Look at all the station wagons on the road. We didn't want station wagons until they started calling them "SUV"s.

And we WANT to pay extra for THEM
We didn't want SUVs until CAFE standards hit the station wagons hard. In the day, SUVs were classed as trucks and evaded CAFE. Ultimately, you're correct, we always wanted station wagons but thanks to the feds they went the way of the do-do. Hence, SUVs took their place.

which is why i refuse to buy what they say we want....i don't want no damned SUV...

i want my sedans, since i can no longer afford pick up trucks.

anyone ever really take notice of the many pictures of crashes..??

how do many of those SUV's and tall pick up trucks end up in a crash..??

ON THIER SIDES or ROLLED OVER

high center of gravity vehicles.

no need whatsoever for pick up trucks to be so damned high, or so many if not all, of those SUV's.....

I'll never own a car/sedan again. They are just too low for my wife and myself to get into. She likes the height of her SUV, it's perfect for her. And I love the height of my 4x4 pickup. Sitting up high lets you see a lot more. I have an aftermarket step bar to climb up into my truck, and my short wife sure needs it! Around here low cars are destroyed by the rough conditions of the roads we have. And I love being able to straddle road debris when a sedan would have its under carriage destroyed by running it over. You can keep your sedan, but don't tell me I can't have my truck.

Still driving my 2013 Honda Civic Si. Was the wife's car first of course, but as the clock rolled on she got the new car. It has a 201 Horsepower engine tied to a six speed manual transmission and a limited slip differential. As it is just over 100,000 miles I looked at new cars again. Thanks to gub'ment intervention, one can no longer get a Toyota or Honda sedan with a V6. Or a manual. Heck, even the new Honda Civic Si has 201 horsepower, but with the complexity of a smaller motor working harder and a turbo. For the same output of my 2013? No thanks. Hopefully, they will roll back some of these stupid regulations and let the public buy the cars they want instead of trying to make everyone go green.

Man how things change. I bought a new 1993 Nissan Sentra for my ex....it was the tightest built, best car I test-drove at the time (for the money). $13k for a 4-door (I think it was 4-door, but I really can't remember) compact sedan that was built like a tank, and ran beautifully for several years (until our split). Maximas used to be great sedans. I never knew Nissan went downhill...
