Is it all just Gibberish?

Eh, sorry. That was my fault. Really it's an inside joke. A long running inside joke around here. Wait until you start hearing about Buicks and HiPoints, crappy Turkish guns and geese.
In time you will gravitate towards things you like, either through trying them or liking how they look or accounts of how they perform and you will learn to ignore the stuff that disinterests you. It's certainly not necessary to be "In the loop" about every type of gun or brand or model. Remember, this forum is largely inhabited by a bunch of cretins and curmudgeons.

HK = Heckler and Koch. They are a high quality German firearm manufacturing company born out of the ashes of WWII Germany. You've no doubt seen many of their iconic firearms without even realizing it. They actually made the first striker fired handgun ( striker fired versus hammer fired IS a subject you should research a bit for sure). They, HK, are also infamous for being expensive ( some would say overpriced) and having total fan boys and detractors, probably in equal numbers. A running theme is someone looking for a specific HK firearm and not being able to easily locate it and when they ask why the answer is " Because you suck and they hate you". You can easily get fully educated on their offerings here if you desire as many of our members have some of the coolest stuff HK ever made. They have many military and LEO contracts as well as civilian offerings world wide. Several guys here have the civilian version of the MP5, which is perhaps the finest 9mm sub machine gun, but certainly the most iconic. And almost everyone has one or more of their handguns. Here's one example.

Well, the young lady can get fully educated in the ways of curmudgeonry around here, that's for sure. Place is lousy with old bastards. :ROFLMAO:
I resemble that remark🙄. Anyway as the folks have said said most here will be more than happy to help out with any questions you may have. Nobody has all the answers-too big a field, (I for example am NOT the guy to ask about AR’s-I’ve had a few and shoy a few but don’t really like ‘em and don’t follow them. My son on the other had can wax eloquent on the subject) but at least a few of us will be able to get you the answer to pretty much anything you ask . Welcome!

Well I will say this forum is one of the better ones to ask. There is more experience than who here and folks will not go off the rails beating their chest like most other forums.

Welcome and all that Knowledge will come. We were all new once and even now most of us will tell you there’s stuff we are still learning some things we just might not be are realm (rifle bs handgun vs shotgun, WTC WTC) as something’s change time to time,

That makes a LOT more sense lol

My baby brain was not happy when I made the mistake of going on YouTube to look up stuff. Which, undoubtedly, was a very critical mistake.

I have heard of hammer vs striker fired. My little XD is striker fired. And I have really only held two pistols that were hammer fired but one was my dads Beretta M9 and his old af revolver (which I HATE).

I think I’m going to stick with my innocent little baby gun a tip I get better and more confident then explore with different calibers and firing types. My range offers rentals to try there so that’s a plus in the event I get curious/bored.

Also, do you like your above pictured pistol? Are there any major drawbacks for novices or learning curves to get used to with it?

I, as a new shooter, am very confused.

I googled what an HK was because of a comment from a different thread and now I’m lost.

How do you all keep up with the constant word babble of guns. There’s just so much to learn and take in and I feel like I need a learners binder with pictures of guns so I can keep up with conversations.

I know it comes with experience and time but holy cow.

I may very well be incredibly stupid lol
Just remember that when you buy a Hi-point it comes with a Buick and vice versa 😁

Many, many folks in this forum have years of experience with a wide variety of firearms. You mentioned shooting on an indoor range do they have rental guns you can try out? Being relatively new to shooting info in this forum could be somewhat intimidating. I can assure you everyone here wants to help but we all have varying opinions on numerous gun related subjects. Good luck and again welcome to the forum.
Yep mine has rentals I can try out. I want to get better with the pistol I have before trying something new out but I know I’ll end up with another one soon.

Today is range day anyway so I’ll see if last time was just a fluke or if I’m heading in the right direction with my handling. I’m saving all my targets so I can track them and put together a log of sorts where I can understand how I shoot in regards to the gun itself, grain, length away from target, physical endurance and strength, stress level, and mentality. I want to make sure that I can either consistently suck and work on that or consistently be okay enough to try a new experience/gun

I have three HK pistols. The VP9, the VP9SK ( pictured, incidentally the SK stands for subcompact ) and the P30L. Prior to getting the VP9SK I carried the full size VP9. The VP9s are notoriously great shooters. Accurate and very nice triggers and ergonomics. The VP9SK is no exception. I think I shoot it better than the full size. Both accept all manner of high capacity magazines. Interchangeable side panels and backstraps allow you to tailor the grip to your hands. I love them all very much. No drawbacks that I'm aware of other than they are addicting. @SimonRL liked his so much I think he has about 14 of them now. VP9 comes in a lot of different versions and configurations.

Really this is all the fault of @HansGruber. He is an enabler of the highest order and is personally responsible for Mine and Simon's affliction. We in turn enable others. Simon more so than me. He's terribly convincing. It's kinda like a vampire cult really. :)

There's a good group here of many ages, backgrounds and varied interests and knowledge, and yes religions and politics.

They tend to make the old saying, there are no stupid questions, true.

Someone, on most subjects, will be glad to answer any question, sans judgement.

There is however a great tendency for topics to spread morph and go way out in the galaxy sometimes. Quite often this is due to the sense of humor that pervades the place.

Welcome @Jen-with.the.Shepherds! I was much like you when I joined the pack here. I have learned so much from these guys in the couple of years I've been here. Don't be shy to ask lots of questions. I still feel stupid from time to time, but like someone said earlier, the only stupid question is one not asked (something to that effect 🙂). It is easy to feel intimidated by things we don't know, but take it from me...these guys won't make you feel that way (not on purpose, anyway ;)).

It looks like this thread has become a show and tell 🤣, so I will show you mine. I have a VP9 and its little brother VP9SK. They are favorites of mine, and they shoot well (me...not so much, lol).

As was said earlier, find what feels good and works well for YOU. Whatever it is. We poke a lot of fun at each other here, but that is all it is...fun. Jump in on any thread with a question if you need to. You are always welcome here :)

Poor, poor Vampiress Belle. I fear the sweet, innocent Jen will soon be joining the ranks.

Remember, this is all @HansGruber's fault. And unlike regular vampires, killing the head does not kill the rest. So y'all on your own. lol
