Is it all just Gibberish?

All you need to do is wade into things, and concentrate on what you find interesting, it's easier to focus on smaller things than try to take everything in, all at once.

I've been a shooter and collector since I was ten years old, and know the most about the types of firearms I like the most. And I still wouldn't ever claim to be an expert.

My best advice is, focus on what interests you the most, and expanding into other areas of shooting will take care of itself

Yep mine has rentals I can try out. I want to get better with the pistol I have before trying something new out but I know I’ll end up with another one soon.

Today is range day anyway so I’ll see if last time was just a fluke or if I’m heading in the right direction with my handling. I’m saving all my targets so I can track them and put together a log of sorts where I can understand how I shoot in regards to the gun itself, grain, length away from target, physical endurance and strength, stress level, and mentality. I want to make sure that I can either consistently suck and work on that or consistently be okay enough to try a new experience/gun

There are a lot of guys here who can give really good advice on shooting fundamentals. There are rules of thumb but nothing hard and fast. If you're hitting your target at the speed and in the situations you are striving for that's what matters. There are a lot of common mistakes shooters make, especially in the beginning. Like the dreaded "Low left" issue and others that can usually be traced to specific behaviors common with new shooters. Good advice and ample practice has turned many of us here into decent shooters. And don't be afraid to try other guns. It's great your range has rentals. Every gun isn't for everybody. We all have guns that we shoot better than all the others.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Speaking for myself my range days aren't always good but can't let the bad days stop me from striving to get better. Have been shooting for over 60 years, still learning.

Jen,
As you can see here, the longer the thread, the more it goes astray ...

But, if you see some acronym, name or anything you don't understand and are trying to follow ... just hit Reply and ask. Like "What's HK???" As I have in the past. Someone usually responds pretty fast here.

Btw, no HKs here. I'll probably get beat up now, lol!

And yes ... sometimes there is a lot of GIBBERISH!

I, as a new shooter, am very confused.

I googled what an HK was because of a comment from a different thread and now I’m lost.

How do you all keep up with the constant word babble of guns. There’s just so much to learn and take in and I feel like I need a learners binder with pictures of guns so I can keep up with conversations.

I know it comes with experience and time but holy cow.

I may very well be incredibly stupid lol

You shouldn't feel that way at all! I used to date a lady that was a potter and listening her discuss the various types of materials involved, especially glaze and its application with other pottery fans was amazingly convoluted. I'll try to put together some thoughts on a new to firearms person buying their first gun after I have time to read what's already been suggested.

Mostly, just wanted to say "Welcome to the Forum!" and the world of guns.

Just remember that when you buy a Hi-point it comes with a Buick and vice versa

I share your affliction, and I, too, have no HKs

Look at it this way: We probably know more about Shepherds than just about everybody else here.

Some kinds of knowledge are broad and limitless, and so are the opinions

You'll catch on....
That’s true lol

I’m a professional dog trainer and I definitely have to slow down when teaching humans so I get it haha

I just gotta keep going and learning 💪

Well, the young lady can get fully educated in the ways of curmudgeonry around here, that's for sure. Place is lousy with old bastards. :ROFLMAO:
I resemble that remark, and damn proud of it!:ROFLMAO:

Jen-with.the.Shepherds

Just wait, it only gets better. 44 is actually 42, 38 is 35, 30-06, 06 for the year of acceptance but 45-70, for 70 gains of black powder etc. Then when you get to be an "old Bastard" the snot nosed brats change the definitions without telling everyone. I.E. clip/magazine being interchangeable for years OH NO, not anymore, call a magazine a clip and some so&so is duty bound to correct you, pistol is NOT synonymous with handgun it's only for bottom feeders now, and we won't even get into .45 colt v .45 long colt.;) Don't worry about it and if anyone gives you any crap you may certainly quote me with. "BUGGER OFF"
