LOVED MY HARLEY!

Thanks. It is a Backdraft, factory built in South Africa. Nothing crazy, a 345 Horse 302 and a Tremec 5 speed. The big block cars are so nose heavy. This is nimble and a hoot to drive...remember the 289 Cobras from the 60's that made the legendary racers only had 271 ponies and a four speed. This is, dare I say it, refined with an overdrive 5th gear. A 50th birthday present from my wonderful wife!

My 06' Nighttrain was a beast, sold it about ten years ago. I really miss those days.

Okay…now I have to do some digging and find some motorcycle photos. My ex and I traveled around Europe on a GoldWing when we were stationed in Germany and I know I have some pics kicking around of us when we arrived at RAF Lakenheath, where my mom and stepdad were stationed. And I have some of me on our Harley back when we lived in West Fargo. The search begins………..

Great, looking forward to seeing the pics.

The Night Train is one the best looking stock bike HD's ever made.

I don't remember if I chimed in here. My 2-wheeled trail started on Honda Mini-Trail 50cc's, then some Yamaha RDs (200,350, and 400), the BSA 650 Lightning, and then I started racing on 4-wheels, and the BSA got dusty alot. I had a 'box of parts' that was supposed to be a 45-inch Sportster, but I never finished it.

Once it was obvious I wasn't racing anymore, I've bought 3 Road Glides ('06, '11, and my current 2020 RG Limited). The '06 had 100k on it when it got totalled. The 2011 had 140k and the 2020 only has 65,000.

Also I sorta became the custodian of a 2011 Ducati Diavel that scares the hell out me (160 hp and 500 pounds). It's only got 20k on it, but they weren't slow miles. I'll never be good enough to ride it. It gets me to places I'm not expecting to be in yet. It's exhilarating. I'd hate to even lay it down.

I just turned 70 and had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago, so I rode the HD for the first time this month last Saturday, but I avoided parking lots (the bike weighs 900 pounds). I'll ride it to again tomorrow. There's a plan to ride up by the ocean on Tuesday.

I love motorcycles. I think it's inherited. My dad had a Vincent Black Shadow until I came into the world. I don't know whether to be sad or proud. He was a hell of a man, and I hate the thought that he quit riding (well, for awhile anyway) because of me. Maybe I'm just selfish and I wish he'd kept the Vincent. People are paying 6-figures for Black Shadows now (as if I'd sell it)

I bet that Ducati is a handful. All I know about Vincent Black Shadows is they are serious collector bikes and demand some major bucks. Hope your knee surgery mends quickly and you're back on the road. No need tell you but watch out for the idiots. It's great you had a good relationship with your Dad.

Vivid Black
My '06 FLTR was Black Pearl. The bike was parked in the sun when we walked in to buy the bike it caught my wife's eye, and she said something like, "all of a sudden paying $500 for a color doesn't seem so stupid after all." Since she was in a buying mood i didn't want to argue. One thing the MoCo can still do right is paint.

My buddy had a Black Pearl Night Train, and he wished he'd bought a Vivid Black one instead. Trains look better that way. Actually, all Harleys probably do, but after the wreck on my '06 I started looking for a more visible color. Then when THAT bike got hit, my wife bought the bright orange replacement that's now in my avvie.

She bought my last three bikes for me. She jokes that she doubles my life insurance every time she buys me a new bike.

At least, I think she's joking.
