As an ex-US Army helicopter pilot from before most peoples time, I was issued a S&W 38 revolver until my last year at Ft. Hood before leaving for Germany. I was issued a Beretta M9 and then had to qualify with it. Loved it compared to the heavy 38 revolver, and it was so much more comfortable in my survival vest. Once in Germany I was issued a brand new M9 and finally qualified with it after multiple rear sight adjustments. Highly recommend this pistol.
I was the opposite. Having the Vietnam vet guys as flight chiefs and instructors in the USAF when they tried giving us the M9 we didn’t shoot them as well as our S&W Model 15’s we complained so our Commander said it was our option since we had to train the B52 aircrew on Model 15’s. So we had about a half and half mix (this was a year after Mel Gibson was Lethal Weapon Beretta 92 popular)
Even deployed to Desert Storm with my revolver as a secondary
When I changed bases in November 1991 I was forced to carry an M9.
That said I learned to shoot and really liked the M9 and as much as I wanted to hate it I couldn’t. Ours ran and ran and ran. I did Nuke security and we **** them a LOT.
Even our training M9’s with tons of rounds we never really had issues as others reportedly did.
Fast forward with my civilian agency the Beretta 92D Vertec while decent had a recurring issue of dead triggers on our training guns. The polymer trigger became “dead” when a groove got ground into it after a lot of use.
So that said if your particular Beretta has a polymer trigger I can’t recommend enough to spend the $$ to get a steel trigger, guide rode and safety/decock lever
Good luck!
