Shotguns VS. PCCs for home defense

Have you done a lot of shooting with Shorties? I hear good things, but I have not yet been able to afford to just shoot a ton of them for my own experimentation. For indoor house defense I like the theory, I am saving up enough to buy bulk and do some experiments of my own.
Not a lot. It's a novelty for me. It was cool to load 41 of them up in my KSG ( which cycled them flawlessly), but for me personally the juice ain't worth the squeeze. As far as House defense, if you run on the premise that you may need more than 8 rounds before you reload I suppose it's legit. I was not impressed particularly with the loads, but like anything else ( .410, 20 gauge, .380, etc.) as long as you hit what you're aiming for I'm certain it will do the job.

I can tell you the Federal are better than the Aguila.

I’m with @Bassbob in the minis.

If I was truly worried about overpenetration, I’d likely switch to a low-recoil #4 buck (as it is, my HD shotgun is loaded with #4 buck, standard velocity)…it’ll go through fewer walls than 00 will.

I still think that if someone came out with a decent 2.75” BB self-defense load, it might well be be a winner. A buddy loaded some up and they did quite well in backyard tests…plated BBs penetrate well, but still stop fairly quickly in hard surfaces/drywall.

Don't really have a definitive selection here..Both good choices and as several have pointed out - both is even better. That being said nothing gets ready to go faster than the sidearm - quick, best moving around tight spaces and use by one hand if needed. If one saw the break-in/house invasion team outside getting ready - sure pop a pistol in the quick holster and get the Sgun or Pcc. I do somewhat disagree with the articles contention that a long road awaits should you need to defend your home from a gang of attackers who broke in. Most municipalities' DA, after a police inspection of the place, details, etc will not choose to prosecute in those circumstances. After receiving many lawyers advisories I add that you stay inside your residence, let them come to you. Self Defense in those situations is vastly easier to prove than chasing the gang down the lane and out of sight. If your state is a castle defense, all the better.
Even professionals have a hard time connecting with a handgun when the poo hit the fan. The average joe/jane doe even more so. AVERAGE, not talking about all the pistoleros that inhabit gun forums. Long gun, long gun, long gun. For me that's a pump shotgun, because I have been using them for decades. A PCC certainly sounds interesting and could very well be the best for many. Everyone needs to remember that just because a DA doesn't charge you don't mean you won't be in court. The family of the "good boy that was turning his life around and going to become a brain surgeon working for free" may very well sue the dog snot out of you. Even if you "win" the blood sucking ambulance chasers are going to rob you blind. Of course, that's still better than the alternative.

While using force against a home invasion you have a lot more leeway in almost all jurisdictions getting sued is overblown. While you can have some legal expenses in any shooting people get the “cause of action” confused with an actual lawsuit. Cause of action is where someone files a petition to sue and you have an initial court appearance where sides present their evence and defense and a Judge decides if there is enough to warrant the suit. These suits if it even makes it that far get thrown out way more times than they go to a trial, Or sometimes settled out of court with certain entities But to hear the internet talk!

However that said it’s also Why I am glad I live in a state that has better gun laws than Texas.l (nothing against Texas I love you folks) Here we have a self defense immunity statute. If you are ruled justified and or even charged but acquitted you can not be held liable for using force by the person or persons family/estate etc.

UNLESS you round strikes an unintended person and this also is the case if it goes through the bad guy then hits an unintended person.

If one is interested in Indiana’s self defense immunity statute here is an attorney acquaintance of mine discussing the recent Detroit shooting scenario if it happened here.

Same here - about ruling justified, can't be held liable as ECS stated.

I am thinking this might be perfect for my wife's side of the bed and the camper. I would even probably grab it if I had to leave the bedroom

Will have to do some research on it, find out if it's decent.

That’s interesting.

Yeah, kinda; the blast shield to protect from gap flash is a very smart addition…

I don’t see why they didn’t make it a 6-shot like the Governor, though.
Maybe something to do with being manufactured for the Canadian market ?

This is not for sale to/ in the US.

16” rifled barrel.
Thanks, will look into that. My wife is a particular woman over her firearms, aren't we all lol. She likes revolvers, does not trust pistols at all. For long arms she liked lever actions and my pump 12 guage. But these days with her arthritis in her wrists and shoulders both pumps and levers are harder for her to use. That's why I got excited for the revolver 410.perfect fit for her.

Guess I am just lucky she wasn't quite as particular about her choice in husbands lol.

It’s an odd one, but…Tristar makes a really nice semiauto .410. Yeah, it’s Turkish, and only available with a long bird barrel…but if she’s not going room clearing, it may be a consideration.
