That's what everyone says before a new gun law or restriction us introduced. Then they comply because they don't want to become felons snd/or go to prison for years. Been around too long and seen people on the federal and state level say simular things beforehand.

People also say if the ATF comes around they're going to have a big surprise waiting for them. Most of those people are idiots living in their mom's basement talking on Reddit and calling themselves Boogaloo Boyz.

The situation you are describing is never going to happen. And if it does things will have gotten so far that lots of law abiding citizens will be forced to become criminals. Because what you are talking about would require door to door home searches, which will never happen.

Fun fact. Australian gun ban. Everyone's heard of it. Guess the percentage of guns that actually got turned in to the government ? 37%. That means 63% of Australian gun owners DID NOT COMPLY.

Another fun fact. Bassbob is not going out in a hail of gunfire shot down by government agents. The choice is not going to be "Turn in your guns or become felons and go to prison", trust me.

Actually, approximately $650k of the newly prohibited firearms were turned in, and that number accounted for only allegedly 20% of the total firearms in Australia at that time. That is, a portion of the firearms kept weren't firearms that were banned, but rather firearms that needed to be registered under the new licensing scheme. Only semiauto rifles and pump-action and semiauto shotguns were banned. Since then, they had other buy backs and schemes for amnesty if people turn in their firearms or family members, friends, neighbors snitch on others who have prohibited firearms. They had IIRC approx 65k handguns turned in the early 2000s.

Firearm ownership has dropped by about half with everyone else being having a strick licensing process. Firearms aren't outright banned in Australia, and there are still millions of legally registered and highly regulated firearms owned by civilians.

Let's say there are holdouts with prohibited firearms hidden in their basement. They can't carry them, can't shoot them at any ranges, can't be seen with them in public, have to hide it from family, friends, and neighbors, can't use them in a self defense shooting, and risk 14 years in prison if caught with only one. That ain't exactly winning or sticking it to the man in my book.

That assumes the goal is sticking it to the man. What if the goal is to be able to save your life or the life of your family members ? Or to have the means to protect your :poop: if society goes sideways.

No one is talking about the ideal solution here. I’m talking about concessions and compromises that will have to be made if the US turns into socialist Australia or Western Europe.
