Mass Shooting in Maine

He was not an FFL nor was he an instructor. He did something with petroleum in the guard, which I assume means logistics. At least according to CBS news a few minutes ago. He also spent a couple weeks in a mental facility and was known to the NY state police as a mental issue.

So it really isn't a red flag issue, it's a fix the ridiculous NICS system before you attempt to expand it issue.
which (to me) as i said in posting # 34

"
i think the first and i mean the very first time someone gets help for mental issues..??
they need to be reported....screw that privacy BS."

from THAT point, of being seen/hospitalized or whatever else.....REPORT this, maybe to the police/FBI/NCIS, to ensure these people DO NOT ever buy another gun, at least not legally.

we have TSA "lists of no fly people" of many that thier privacy/civil rights, was released to authorities, i see really no difference in those seeking or being put away for "mental issues"

both the TSA no fly and mental issues are for the over all safety of everyone else.

i have no idea if he was an FFLor not based on fact. i heard it reported on news thats why i phrased it as was he?
i thought at time it sounded ODD. i apologize for being less than clear. i see now i left out a question mark, in my other post. dam
I do apologize for that !

a fuel guy is pretty basic job?? which also begs to say..is he or was he a firearms instructor or merely a range safety person on watch station as part of his guard requirements?? you know a peon to sign folks in and be a second set of eyes for the real range safety officer? did he teach basic firearm stuff to new people as they rolled in from basic training?

biden wants congress to pass more assault weapons bans, something about magazines and oh yes my favorite "universal" back ground checks... WTF is an universal background check? NCIC checks are required BY LAW..?????
are there gun shows where an FFL does not do one?

and lastly...was he charged with death threats to guard unit or some other crime? and did court let him off after a 2 week mental stay??

As I have mentioned before here, I studied hundreds of mass killers and taught a course for government and businesses on how to avoid, of mitigate mass killing events.

In almost every incident, the killers gave warning signals well in advance of the event, in some cases stating exactly what they were going to do. But those around them did not recognize the signals, or ignored them, or just didn't know what to do.

NICS can stop a killer from legally buying a gun, but that does not keep him from getting one by other means. In many instances the killers bought the gun legally from an FFL, but there had been a failure somewhere along the way to channel the disqualifying information into NICS. I am constantly frustrated by these missed opportunities for intervention.

It is in all our best interests to keep guns out of the hands of homicidal maniacs. Institutionalizing and treating those with a homicidal bent is one element. Willingness to report deranged individuals, and robust response by law enforcement and other public safety services is another. LE agencies need to have policies that require thorough and in-depth investigation into individuals who pose a threat. And like it or not, we need to separate crazies from their guns.

as far as "universal background checks", maybe a state to state checking system, in conjunction with the NCIC.??

as a former CDL truck driver, there is a data base on us, a clearing house for drug issues, like failed drug testing. there is also a background checking service for potential employers to check out a new applicant, called Hire Right...but that has it's drawbacks......as it is a subscription service to which the company must pay, and be a member to obtain employee information

there are other employment background checking services, Sterling is another one.

maybe that's what is meant by "universal"??

a "one stop shopping" place for ALL information on all of us can be compiled??

and ANY LE, be it city, state, federal can obtain this info..????

We have to be really careful about the "mental issues" thing, since they could use that to disarm us as a whole. There is a difference between someone going through the stress of a divorce with children involved, with added stress from a job and finances, and someone like this. Someone who just needs to talk to a therapist or counselor is different than someone who has serious mental/psychological issues requiring medication and/or observation. If they have their way, we could all be classified as a danger to society and disarmed. We need to open up mental health facilities again.

mental issues are or could be a slippery slope
but this guy was reported to have been under care for 2 weeks in an institution.. plus still visiting a shrink.
i am curious as to what court decided when we stated he was going to shoot up the armory, is that what got him a 2 week bed stay and what was conditions after wards of his release or ??? sure hope they find him soon and he has not dispatched himself

thing is, there are differences between...stress and mental illness

stress is in our everyday lives, at home, work, on the roads, etc.

mental illness cannot be cured, they "hear voices" telling them what to do.

since the fall of mental institutions and insane asylum's, the whack jobs have been on the loose.

we do need to reopen those institutions, put them in there, dope them up, put them in strait jackets and maybe chain them to thier beds, or on the floor.

it worked decades ago, and the streets, gathering places were much safer.

there is NO cure for mental illness.

stress can be dealt with

i would bet dollars to donuts "some" military personnel are also helping.

drones with night vision, hound dogs, trackers...that guy in PA a few months ago, was also a survivalist's if i recall, and he was captured too...it took a while, but they got him.

this guy however, i hope he gets cut down.

it'll save the state millions of dollars in the long run.

and also, would prevent him from ever escaping and going on another rampage.

You know crazy when you see it
You do. I do. BUT! Look at what's happening right now to Donald Trump and Hunter Biden. Are those two individuals getting "equal justice under the law"? Of course not. I am deathly afraid of anybody on the government's payroll being allowed to make the crazy-or-not decision on ANY of us "peasants." Gee, how do you THINK that's gonna go?

The anti-gun crowd thinks everyone of us that owns a gun is crazy. Plain and simple! But, as far as they are concerned taking all of our guns away would fix the problem .
and yet, the anti-gun, woke, politically correct, libtards ignore the real crazies, deny opening mental/insane asylums, and let the prosecutors, and laws protect the criminals, all for the common good of society......

batten down the hatches, boy and girls and children of all ages..........things will continue to get worse, with those in charge that are brain dead.

supposedly the Maine shooter, left a suicide note....(at about the 2:00 minute point)

if true, great news........the world is better off, the state is better off, to not have this crazy on the free state care dole.

Ok, what’s your point here?

That Trump should y be prosecuted for things he’s done just because someone else is…

Oh, wait. Hunter Biden IS being prosecuted for things he did.

So, what exactly is your point?
