Springfield Armory XD Mod.3 Review

I've been carrying a Springfield XD Mod.2 subcompact for many years. If Springfield released a subcompact version with the optic cut at this price point, I'd have a hard time arguing myself out of an upgrade (assuming it performs as advertised).
On second thought, with winter coming up, maybe I can just go for this model? At this price point, what's not to love? I wonder if it will fit my existing Mod.2 holsters? If not, Muddy River Tactical will likely have an IWB option out shortly.

.40 isn’t a dead caliber…

But it’s coughing up blood.

Currently, there are still more 40s&w options than there are 10mm.... I'm probably am missing some, but these are the current production 40S&W handguns and carbines.

1. Glocks in various sizes
2. Stoeger STR-40
3. HK VP40 in various sizes
4. HK USP 40 in various sizes
5. HK P30 in various sizes
6. Hk P2000 in various sizes
7. CZ TS 2
8. Beretta 96A1
9. Beretta PX4 Storm
10. S&W M&P Shield M2.0 various sizes and configurations
11. S&W SD40 2.0 (NEW)
12. S&W M&P 2.0 in various sizes and configurations.
13. S&W M&P 2.0 METAL (NEW)
14. Rock Island Armory Rock Ultra
15. Tanfoglio Xtreme Stainless
16. Tanfoglio Stock
17. Tanfoglio Defiant
18. Kahr Arms P40
19. Taurus G2C
20. Taurus TH 40
21. Charter Arms Pitbull
22. Magnum Research Baby Eagle III
23. CMMG Banshee MKGS
24. Kriss Vector SDP Gen II l
25. Kel Tec Sub2k
26. Hi-Point JCP
27. Hi-Point 4095TS Carbine

There are still millions of older 40 cal handguns in circulation. 9mm, 22lr, 45acp, 380acp, 38 special and 357 mag are probably the only handgun calibers out of all the handgun calibers that ever existed that have more firearms in circulation. 40S&W is still a relatively popular round, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

These are the top Calibers according to AmmoSeek. .40S&W is in 7th place not too far behind .38 special and 10mm. There are more ammo options for 40S&W than there is for 10mm and 380acp.

So.

There are a total of 2 NEW models on there…and they are both from S&W, whose name is on the cartridge, and so have a vested interest in keeping it going.

No dealers in my area will take a .40 in trade, or as a sale, unless you want to give it away for pennies on the dollar.

.38 special has been around for 125 years, give or take.

I doubt .40 will make half of that.

Haters gonna hate.

I was about to send off my Mod 2 Tactical to get milled but I think this might be a better option.
hmm...
decisions, decisions.

The better option would be if they're releasing a 5" slide model, AKA the tactical. I love my 5" Mod.2 and wouldn't ever consider milling the slide.

I'm hoping a 5" will be made, the Mod.3 should sell well at this price point, IMO. Cheap mags to boot since they are compatible all the way back to the original XD.

Same here. Nobody will trade for one and they don't even want to stock a new .40. Be thankful they even produced this new gun and if it doesn't fit your needs don't buy it.
