Oh, another one from back on the farm, referring to the corn crop. "Knee high by the 4th of July.". That was for corn crops in the "upper" Midwest. Corn crops further south were probably taller by the 4th.

Back in the day most men in my area of Pennsylvania worked in the mines (my Grandfather) and they were called "coal crackers". I still tell people when they ask me where from Pa. I am from and I say Coal Cracker County.

You beat me to it. More North than in the South, but I like to use it when I see a fat bottom girl, often wearing leggings. Uff da! Yikes!

I grew up on a dairy farm in the upper Midwest. I remember a lot of these phrases. But there is one my dad used to use a lot. And now I find myself using it all the time. "It'll put hair on your chest!".

and the next one will take it off.

You ask me if I want a Coke, it better be one. For more generic drinks, Do you want a soda? Or, do you want a pop?
