Other the LEO or armed security officers, I can’t see a logical reason for wanting to open carry. No judgment for those who do however, IMHO, the con’s significantly outweigh the pros.
I am curious what this statement means > "Serves them right for being so careless and letting everyone know their business."Why should LEO open carry or even wear a uniform. It makes them a target correct? Open carry and guns have no deterent and only scare people so I agree all military and police should conceal carry and wear t shirts and jeans. I mean otherwise they will be shot on sight by nardowells. Serves them right for being so careless and letting everyone know their business.
Down here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas near the Mexican Border, not only do you have consider "other shoppers who armed" but also plain clothes law enforcement officers (local, state, Border Patrol, etc.) and off duty corrections officers.I'm on your side. Putting it mildly Texas is a well armed state. On a busy day at Walmart or other big box stores reacting to an active shooter with lethal force not only puts you in serious danger, but you could be shot by other shoppers that carry. Catch-22
If I am understanding correctly, and I think I am, here's what @Sol-Invictus is saying: "if regular people, i.e. civilians without immunity to point, shoot, etc... at other civilians are being told not to strut their stuff because it's "dangerous and makes you a target", then the exact same logic applies to PD and their display of equipment. Whether I agree or not is not the point here.I am curious what this statement means > "Serves them right for being so careless and letting everyone know their business."
I get you bro... Perhaps I am not understanding it as written. That being said, USCCA telling you "open carry is dangerous" has as much value as a Glock-sponsored article telling you that the #1 Conceal Carry "mistake" is to have a manual safety. I don't buy the Grey Man "tactics", you don't want to look like a victim until the last minute then surprise your aggressor, you want to make sure you potential aggressor knows you will not be an easy victim, they will move to an easier target. The majority of our current potential aggressors are not highly skilled ninjas cross-bred with MS-13 gangbanger and the Hulk. They are little cowards trying to jump the most vulnerable person. Same for home invasion, car theft or burglary. If you are a thief, that means you already have chosen the path of least resistance in life.
I do not open carry, but I definitely OWB.
Yes we have, but I don't think it's modifiable. I just didn't want to be that guyHas anyone noticed that 'concealed' is misspelled in the original thread title? This thread is null and void...
My point was to use the Rush Limbaugh technique of taking a liberal argument to a maximum level to show how silly it is. Anyone who takes offense has now proven the maxim can't stand if taken to the logical conclusion.I get you bro... Perhaps I am not understanding it as written. I read this part

As meaning it serves LEOs who get shot right, because they are in uniform and open carrying... I would take exception to that statement on it's face. That is like saying, "it serves her right, she was asking for it"... due to skimpy clothing.
It is totally possible that I am reading that wrong.
okie dokie, I got it. You'd be surprised how many people around here (geographically) feel that way so was just asking. Peace. My point was to use the Rush Limbaugh technique of taking a liberal argument to a maximum level to show how silly it is. I'm not sure if I was the guilty party on misspelling concealment. Wether I was or not it's so silly to make such a big deal out of it. I'm sure you've never had a typo or ever misspelled a word.Has anyone noticed that 'concealed' is misspelled in the original thread title? This thread is null and void...

The uniform and its accoutrements are necessary symbols of authority and identity, the firearm is a piece of equipment. Your postulation is faulty. Why should LEO open carry or even wear a uniform. Not at all, the whole point is it identifies someone with a gun. The perceived authority is irrelevant. The uniform and its accoutrements are necessary symbols of authority and identity, the firearm is a piece of equipment. Your postulation is faulty.
Major issue of today. People don't respect authority and it is slowly becoming irrelevant unfortunatelyNot at all, the whole point is it identifies someone with a gun. The perceived authority is irrelevant.
Often in this forum I refer to my long ago experience in law enforcement. Being a peace officer today is black and white different from those days. Police departments all over the country are having serious recruitment problems. There are bad apples in law enforcement. I like to think the vast majority of cops are decent folks that are committed to the old adage, "Protect & Serve" I'm not sure if you were serious about peace officers not wearing uniforms and carrying concealed, hope not.Why should LEO open carry or even wear a uniform. If you shoot a cop every cop in that jurisdiction no matter what agency they work for Will Not Rest Until You Are Caught. In some places they even make a big deal out of handcuffing you with the handcuffs of the cop you killed. Why should LEO open carry or even wear a uniform. It makes them a target correct?
