Prodigy issues

Seriously, when my RO Operator acted up I could have gone on here and ranted, but that gets you nowhere, I just tried a couple things, one worked out perfect and I enjoy shooting it, I’ll say it again social media will be the end of things, you will always find internet tough guys…….usually these are the ones who live in there parents basements yet…….😬
You are bang on with this comment. I think it is a generational issue.

First time poster here.
I picked up a 5" Prodigy on Tuesday 9/5 - it was the first one my local shop got in.

This is my FIRST 1911 (Though not my first gun or first Springfield) and I have never fired a 1911 before this one.

Just got home from going to the range today for the first time with it and my experience was perfect. Only put 150 rounds through it, but not one issue. The gun ran flawlessly for me. I used new 115gr Blazer Brass ammo.

I did not shoot it right out of the box.

I racked the gun probably a good ~100 times, then took it apart and did a standard cleaning. It had clearly been test fired at the factory and was a bit dirty.

Lubed and put it back together, racked it maybe another ~200 times total, put a couple mags full of metal snap caps through it, took it apart again and cleaned, then lubed it once more.

I will say that if I -slowly- rack it back, I can get it to catch on the disconnector, but regular racking motion and firing it, never had it catch. It's actually a lot harder to make it catch on the disconnector now after doing all the above and using it at the range. Definitely feels smoother now than it did right out of the box.

I figured I'd post my experience here and hopefully it helps someone. I've had a great experience with the Prodigy and it's a fantastic addition for me. Really looking forward to using it more.

So I just brought home the prodigy. I went to take it apart and clean it and noticed it locked back without me using the slide lock. No ammo or magazine in the weapon. So I started rocking it back and forth and sure enough it locks back without the slide lock. If I lightly tap it, it will slide forward again. 5 inch barrel and zero rounds through it.

Sounds like you had a solid plan and did a great job. Congratulations and enjoy shooting your new gun.

Hanging up on the disconnector is my guess, read the post just before yours and see if that helps.

Welcome to the forum from DFW. Glad to hear from a fellow Prodigy owner with a positive story. You definitely prepped the gun nicely. No surprise that you had a good result.

Welcome to the forum from DFW. The Prodigy needs a little running in. There are quite a few stories regarding the disconnector, but if you follow @Bragah’s lead you should be fine.

As Keystone mentioned, try the steps Bragah went through. If that doesn't clear up the problem, give SA a call and they can get it taken care of under warranty.

Little update:
I enjoyed it so much yesterday I took it back to the range this morning. That and I wanted to try a few different manufacturers ammo.

Ran 100 rds of Remington and 50 rds of Merica Ammunition through it. Ran perfectly. REALLY loving the Prodigy!

Hope everyone who's having issues has them resolved quickly! It's a blast to shoot.

I'm new here and found my way because I also purchased a Prodigy Ds 5" model and was disappointed by my time at the range today. I put 200 rounds through it. Not one magazine ran without issues. The slide would stick open not loading an around or load a round but not go into full battery. I have only the two factory mags and the 20 round mag ran slightly better than the 17 (I might have had a string of six rounds without a malfunction). Those 6 rounds were a total blast but so far this is not meeting my expectations. Tonight I will take it apart and clean it if I see anything interesting I will add pictures. I will put another 200 rounds before I consider making any changes.

I feel compelled to add to the list of positive stories about the new Prodigy - my 4.25 model has run great so far, and eaten everything I've fed it, except for some Fiocchi 147gr FMJ. I've shot 115 & 124gr cheap target ammo, re-manufactured, Federal JHPs and some Winchester flat nose, and it ate it all with no issues. It's a joy to shoot and very accurate. I have one 17-round mag and three 20-rounders, and all have functioned well and were smoothly finished.

Welcome.

New here as well, but also purchased a 5" Prodigy. I personally haven't had any issues out of a total of 300 rds so far, 3 different manufacturers ammo.

I am curious, as I've been reading up trying to see if how some have solved their issues.

If you feel the inner lip of your mags, is it completely smooth or does it feel gritty? Some people report their mag lips were not smooth and the casing was catching on the feed lips. After smoothing them out, they said it ran great.

Please let us know! Also, if you don't mind, what's your Serial? Mine is 003XXX, trying to see if it's random or maybe a bad batch with close serials. (Don't post the whole number, X out the last few like I did)

I'm in the 2000 range and my pistol has run perfectly.
